Our Director, Justyna Balowska & Associate Caitlin Riethmuller recently attended the Women’s Field Day in Dalwallinu, an event dedicated to empowering women to make a difference to their families, farm businesses and the broader agricultural industry.

From business strategy and risk management to emerging technologies, global markets and leadership, the day showcased the incredible depth of knowledge and innovation driving regional agriculture forward.

“It was a great day spent networking with inspiring, like-minded women in the rural agricultural sector,” Caitlin shared.

Justyna added, “It was a great day connecting with regional communities, building meaningful relationships, and creating space to bring together like-minded women in farming.”

Byfields is proud to be partnering with Heroes to Hub, an annual community fundraising event supporting the incredible work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Western Operations.

Whether participants choose to run, walk, ride or even horse ride the 26km course, every kilometre helps raise vital funds to support the RFDS and the life-saving emergency aeromedical and primary healthcare services they provide to rural and remote Western Australian communities.

The impact of this event is already clear. In its very first year, Heroes to Hub welcomed more than 160 participants, attracted 430+ individual donors, was supported by 61 event partners, and raised over $130,000 for the RFDS.

We're proud to support an event that brings communities together for such an important cause and look forward to seeing what can be achieved this year.

After almost 40 years with Byfields, and 33 of those spent as a Director, Simon Northey is officially calling it a day!

From starting with the firm in 1987 as an undergraduate to becoming one of the youngest directors in Byfields history at just 26, Simon has dedicated almost four decades to helping build and shape Byfields into the firm it is today. His exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to our people, his clients and the firm have been instrumental in that journey, leaving a lasting legacy that will be felt for many years to come.

We are incredibly grateful for Simon’s dedication and contribution to Byfields over the years. On behalf of the Directors, staff and clients who have had the privilege of working alongside him, we sincerely thank Simon and wish him and Larissa all the very best for retirement and the exciting next chapter ahead.

Eamonn Lanagan presented to the Holt Rock Group on 24 June as part of a succession planning-focused event.

The Holt Rock Group began as a local spray group and has evolved into a member-led network focused on information sharing, learning and professional development.

Eamonn’s session focused on key financial and business structure considerations for succession planning, contributing to a broader program covering human capital, legal considerations, and practical succession insights across the agricultural sector.

The event also featured presentations from Stuart Wesley (Oasis People & Culture), Richard Dewar (HHG Legal) and Lisa Judson (Planfarm), followed by a panel discussion chaired by Stuart Wesley.

The 2026 Federal Budget has introduced some of the most significant proposed tax changes in more than 25 years, with updates to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and discretionary trusts set to impact many farming businesses.

While the changes are significant, there is no need for rushed decisions. Existing concessions, transitional arrangements and proposed exemptions for primary production income mean there is time to assess your position and plan accordingly.

What does the Federal Budget mean for taxpayers and small businesses?

In this video, Gordon unpacks some of the proposed measures that could provide relief for individuals and businesses, including the new Working Australian Tax Offset, the proposed $1,000 standard tax deduction, and changes to small business support measures.

Gordon also discusses the continuation of the instant asset write-off and the return of loss carry-back provisions, which could provide valuable opportunities for eligible businesses.

If you’d like to understand how these proposed changes may impact your circumstances, get in touch with the Byfields team for tailored advice.

A great day at the AgVocateWA Annual Forum in Northam, where Skye had the opportunity to present on “Optimism in Ag: Playing the Long Game.”

It was inspiring to be part of a youth-led event bringing together emerging and established voices across agriculture for a day of meaningful discussion, learning, and connection.

From financial management and agtech to mental health and industry experience, the forum highlighted the depth of talent and ideas shaping the sector's future.

Thank you to AgVocateWA for having us. At Byfields, we’re proud to support young regional leaders and the events that bring people together, foster connections and help strengthen the future of agriculture and regional communities.
