The latest Federal Budget includes more than $3.5 billion in measures designed to support small business resilience, improve cash flow, and encourage innovation.
Key highlights include:
โ
Permanent Instant Asset Write-Off
From 1 July 2026, businesses with aggregated turnover under $10 million will be able to permanently deduct eligible assets costing less than $20,000.
โ
Expanded Loss Carry-Back Rules
Companies with turnover up to $1 billion may be able to carry back current-year losses to recover tax paid in the previous two income years.
โ
Start-Up Tax Support
Eligible start-ups within their first two years of operation could access refundable tax losses from 1 July 2028, helping improve early-stage cash flow.
โ
Enhanced R&D Incentives
Changes from 1 July 2028 include increased refundable R&D tax offsets for eligible experimental activities and expanded access for qualifying businesses with turnover under $50 million.
These proposed measures aim to reduce compliance costs while giving businesses greater confidence to invest, innovate, and grow.
