This week's education meetings continued the trend of working with self-employed clients who are looking beyond today and planning for the future. Retirement may still be 20 years away, but understanding your options now can make a significant difference over time.

Some of this week's hot topics included: • Superannuation • Retirement planning • Investment options • Personal insurance

On the mortgage broking side, first home buyers have definitely been the focus. With so many recent changes and incentives, it's been exciting to start helping clients, both self-employed and PAYG employees, understand what's possible and navigate their options with confidence.

Announcement 📣 📣 📣

From the First Step to the Next Step.

For over 15 years, I've helped people better understand their finances as a financial planner and, more recently, through financial education.

After months of study, professional development, accreditation and a lot of hard work behind the scenes, I'm excited to officially announce that First Steps Financial now offers Mortgage Broking.

While lending is a new service for my business, helping people navigate complex financial decisions certainly isn't. Throughout my career, I've worked closely with mortgage brokers and clients, supporting them through important lending decisions. Mortgage broking is a natural extension of my experience, allowing me to combine my background in financial planning with an education-first approach to lending.

Whether you're buying your first home, financing a vehicle, refinancing, investing or simply exploring your options, I'm here to help you understand your choices and make informed lending decisions with confidence.

I'm looking forward to supporting even more individuals and families on their financial journey.

First Steps Financial

The retirement planning theme continues this week.

This week's conversations centred around retirement planning, succession planning, the role superannuation can play in retirement, and the different considerations for assets held inside and outside of super.

One thing that comes up time and time again is that the decisions you make today can have a significant impact on the income, flexibility and opportunities available to you in retirement.

There is rarely a one-size-fits-all approach. Understanding your options early gives you the opportunity to make informed decisions before they become urgent ones.

Education first. Confident decisions follow.

The last 12 months have been a period of growth and evolution.

What started as financial education has continued to evolve as more people seek support navigating some of life's biggest financial decisions.

After months of work behind the scenes, I'm excited to share the next chapter of First Steps Financial.

Not long now...

Stay tuned. 👀

Retirement planning continues to be a strong theme throughout this week's client meetings.

One of the most valuable discussions has been around understanding the difference between holding assets inside and outside superannuation, and how these decisions may impact retirement income, flexibility, taxation and future Age Pension entitlements.

We've also explored the role of insurance as retirement approaches. While insurance can provide valuable protection during the wealth-building years, there often comes a point where it's worth reviewing whether the purpose, cost and impact on retirement balances still align with your goals.

Another key takeaway has been the importance of planning ahead. Many superannuation opportunities are subject to contribution caps, eligibility rules and timing requirements. Leaving these conversations until retirement is around the corner can mean missing opportunities that may have been available years earlier.

Retirement planning isn't simply about having enough money. It's about understanding your options, making informed decisions and positioning yourself to create the retirement lifestyle you want with confidence and clarity.

Retirement planning has been a strong theme throughout this week’s client meetings.

One of the biggest things I continue to see is how valuable it can be to simply slow down and properly understand your current position, your available options and how different financial decisions may impact the years ahead.

Many people are surprised to learn that retirement planning is about far more than just superannuation balances. Conversations this week included:

👍 retirement income strategies
👍 superannuation structures
👍 insurance sustainability
👍 estate planning
👍 business succession
👍 Age Pension considerations
👍 cash flow and budgeting

Early planning can make a significant difference, particularly where contribution rules, pension eligibility, estate planning and long-term structuring opportunities are involved.

The earlier you begin understanding the landscape, the more opportunity you may have to position yourself in a way that supports flexibility, confidence and greater choice later in life.

This month has been incredibly busy behind the scenes, spending time online tutoring and supporting the next generation entering the financial advice industry.

I genuinely love being able to combine my previous industry experience with education, helping future professionals build both their knowledge and confidence as they work towards their careers.

Alongside tutoring, I’ve also been studying and working behind the scenes in preparation for additional services that I’m very excited to share with you all soon.
