Your SMSF offers plenty of flexibility for investments, but it operates under strict rules designed to ensure the fund's sole purpose is providing retirement benefits.

According to the ATO, you cannot lend money to members or their relatives, acquire assets from related parties, or use fund assets for personal benefit before you meet a condition of release.

SMSFs also cannot exceed the 5% in-house asset limit, which restricts how much of your fund can be invested in assets of related parties.
