The lesson behind this is simple: if you don’t speak the language of accounting, you’ll overpay tax and make slower, riskier decisions.
You guess. The numbers disagree. Revenue looks strong. Cash is thin. Costs blend into “misc.” Deductions slip by. You wait for year-end and hope it evens out. Then the tax bill arrives. Options shrink. Now you’re reacting, not choosing.
Get comfortable with the basics. Read your reports monthly. Ask what each line is telling you and what it’s hiding. The issue is not finding a cheaper accountant. It is whether you can read your numbers in time to keep more cash and pay less tax.
