We’re incredibly proud to share that after Elliot Watson won the Outstanding Business Leader – 20 Employees and Under at the regional Business Hunter awards, he has now progressed to the 2026 State Business Awards as a State Finalist!

Reaching the State level is a fantastic achievement, giving us the opportunity to be recognised alongside some of the best businesses and business leaders from across NSW.

We’re looking forward to celebrating this milestone at the 2026 State Business Awards Gala at ICC Sydney on Friday, 30 October, where the State winners will be announced.

💙 FAREWELL & THANK YOU, JENNY! 💙

Today we say a very fond farewell to our wonderful Client Service Manager, Jenny Babekuhl, as she officially begins her retirement after six years with Watson Wealth.

Since joining us in August 2020, Jenny has been such an important part of our team and has made a genuine difference to hundreds of our clients. Her knowledge, experience, patience, incredible attention to detail and, most importantly, the genuine care she has shown to our clients has been something we have all valued enormously.

Jenny has been the definition of rock solid. Through changing systems, providers, processes and everything else that has come our way over the past six years, she has always been there, quietly making sure things get done and our clients are looked after. She has been someone we could always rely on — and we’re going to miss that enormously.

But after a long career in the industry, Jenny has more than earned this next chapter. We hope retirement involves plenty of relaxation, time with family and friends, a scotch & coke in hand, and a healthy dose of Patrick Swayze movies! 🥃🎬😂

Understanding the forces shaping our region.

This morning, Singleton Financials’ Gary Gilbert, Senior Mortgage Broker, and Nicole Prioste, Marketing Manager, attended the Business Hunter Economic Update at Merewether Surfhouse in Newcastle.

The event explored the economic trends affecting Australia and, importantly, what they mean for businesses across the Hunter.

Some of the key takeaways included:

📊 Small and medium businesses are the backbone of the Hunter, with businesses turning over up to $2 million representing the majority of business types.

🏥 Our region's economy is diverse, with healthcare, construction and retail highlighted among the leading employing industries.

🤖 AI will influence every job in some way, but the opportunity is to use it to improve efficiency, simplify processes and support people—not overlook the value of human capability.

👥 Investing in people remains essential. Skills, experience, relationships and local knowledge continue to be important points of difference.

💰 The economic environment is changing, including expectations around inflation and interest rates, making informed planning more important for households and businesses.

🌱 Adaptability is key. The overarching message was that we're entering a decade of significant change, and businesses need to be ready to evolve.

A valuable morning of learning and reflection, and a great opportunity to hear from economic and regional experts about the future of the Hunter.

Recently, Elliot travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to attend the 2026 Rhombus Connect Conference, the annual Rhombus conference bringing together wealth managers, advisory firms and investment professionals from across the financial advisory industry.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry professionals, share insights and stay across the latest developments in financial advice and wealth management.

The conference was made even more special with Elliot receiving the 10 Years Service Excellence Award 🏆 — recognising a decade of dedication, commitment and excellence throughout his journey.
