• Paying only the minimum could take over 38 years and cost more than $10,000
• Increasing repayments to $75/month cuts repayment time to under 4 years
• Paying $100/month reduces total interest even further and clears the debt in under 3 years

Key proposed changes include:
• changes, including pre-CGT assets becoming taxable
• A 30% minimum tax on capital gains & trust distributions
• restricted to new builds
• Permanent instant asset write-off for small business
• Loss carry-back rules returning
• FBT exemptions being phased out

With major dates looming from 1 July 2027, accountants and advisers are expecting a wave of questions from and alike.

Some measures may still depend on the outcome of the next Federal — but if enacted, these reforms would mark one of the biggest shifts to Australia’s tax landscape in decades
