Retirement can feel like one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll ever make.

And often, the hardest part isn’t the money itself.

It’s the uncertainty.

Will I have enough?
Am I making the right call?
What if something changes?

You don’t need to have every answer before you start planning. But you do need a clear picture of your income, your lifestyle, your risks, and your options.

That clarity can make the next chapter feel less overwhelming — and a lot more exciting.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞?

It’s not just about reaching a certain age or having a certain amount in super.
Retirement readiness is about knowing whether your money can support the life you want — and whether you feel confident making the shift from earning an income to drawing one.

Some of the bigger questions are:
Can I afford the lifestyle I want?
Where will my income come from?
How long will my money last?
What happens if markets fall, costs rise, or my health changes?

The numbers matter, but so does the feeling behind them.
A good retirement plan should help you clearly understand your options, make confident decisions, and feel less anxious about the unknowns.

Because retirement isn’t just about stopping work. It’s about knowing what you’re stepping into.

What happens to your money when you pass away?

It’s not always as simple as “it goes through your Will.”

Superannuation, life insurance, jointly owned assets and personal investments can all be treated differently depending on how they are set up.

That is why estate planning is about more than documents. It is about giving the people you love clarity at a time when they need it most.

A clear plan can help reduce confusion, avoid unintended outcomes and make sure your wishes are easier to follow.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙜𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡? A lot of people assume their Will covers everything.

But when someone passes away, that is not always how it works.

Some assets may be dealt with through your estate. Others — like super, life insurance, or jointly owned assets — can be handled differently depending on how they are set up.

That is why estate planning is about more than having a Will. It is about making sure the pieces work together, so the people you care about are not left with confusion, delays, or unintended outcomes.

A little planning now can make a hard time a little easier later.

Retirement planning isn’t just about having enough money. It’s about building confidence in your financial future.

Retirement isn’t one chapter — it’s two. And most people only plan for the first.

The first is easy to picture: travel, family, more time, a slower pace.
The second is less clear — and often more important.
What if your health changes?
Will your income keep up?
What if you need aged care or live longer than expected?

Because of this uncertainty, many retirees don’t overspend; they underspend.

Not because they haven’t saved enough, but because they’re not confident their money will last.
That’s why retirement planning isn’t just about super or investments.
It’s about understanding what your money is there to do, so you can enjoy today while feeling prepared for tomorrow.

If you want clarity across both chapters, let’s talk.

It was a privilege to join Ben Nash, Sophie Firminger and at the Ensombl All Licensee PD Day to talk about how advice firms are approaching sales, client engagement and the ongoing value of advice.

For me, the best client experience starts well before the advice document. It starts with understanding what people are really trying to achieve, helping them feel heard, and creating a process that feels clear, supportive and human.

Thank you to for creating space for these conversations and for bringing together advisers who are genuinely focused on improving the way we serve clients.

Discipline with money does not mean being restrictive.

It means knowing what matters, making intentional choices, and giving your future self more options.

Small habits today can make a big difference later.

Do you stop paying tax when you retire?
Not necessarily.

It’s one of the biggest assumptions we hear — that once work stops, tax stops too. But retirement income can come from a few different places, and not all of it is treated the same way.

For many Australians, income from a taxed super fund can be tax-free from age 60. But if you’re also receiving income from things like rental properties, bank interest, dividends, part-time work, or some pensions, tax may still apply.

That’s why good retirement planning is not just about how much you have. It’s about how your income is set up, where it comes from, and what that means for your lifestyle.

A little planning now can make a big difference to how confident you feel later.

A big thank you to Dormway Pty Ltd for having me run a financial wellbeing session with your team recently.

It’s always great to see a business looking for practical ways to support their people — not just at work, but in life outside of work too.

Money can be a real source of stress for many people, so giving your team the chance to learn, ask questions, and feel more confident about their finances is genuinely valuable.

I loved being part of it.

For any business owners or HR managers curious about running something similar for your team, feel free to send us a message, and we’d be happy to share more.
