As you approach retirement, it is a good idea to think about how much you are going to spend each year.
For most people who have gone their entire lives never really having a set budget, this can be a bit daunting.
Suddenly you have a large pot of money and you need to make decisions about how much you pull from it each month and if this is too much or too little.
What also adds to this is retirement spending isn’t consistent.
Usually in the first few years of retirement, spending is a bit higher as you tick off some of those early retirement goals. These are usually travel, renovations, maybe even gifts to family.
But as you move through retirement, spending usually reduces before increasing again at the end for additional care costs.
Having a plan about your retirement and how much to spend will ensure you maximise how long your money lasts and ensures you don’t blow up your retirement in the first few years.
