Fringe Benefits Tax catches more employers than you'd expect.

Cars used for personal travel, entertainment expenses, phones and laptops provided to employees, low-interest loans. If you're providing perks to staff (or yourself), FBT may apply.

The FBT year runs April to March, not July to June. Obligations get missed because it falls off the radar.

If you employ people or provide benefits to yourself as a director, it's worth checking your FBT position. We can walk you through it. ๐Ÿ“‹

Growing a business is exciting. The financial admin that comes with it is less so.

More revenue means more GST, more payroll obligations, more complex deductions, and often a structure that starts to feel like it's holding you back rather than supporting you.

The businesses that scale well have someone helping them stay on top of the financial side before it becomes a problem.

If you're growing and your accounting hasn't kept pace, let's have a conversation. ๐Ÿš€

"Nobody told me about PAYG instalments."

We hear this a lot from first-year business owners. Once your income crosses a certain threshold, the ATO stops waiting until tax time and starts collecting upfront every quarter.

It's not a penalty, it's just the system assuming you'll owe tax and collecting it early. But if you're not expecting it, a quarterly bill can hurt your cash flow.

Knowing it's coming is half the battle. We'll make sure you're prepared. ๐Ÿ“Š

3 in 5 property investors don't fully understand what they can claim on their investment property.

Depreciation schedules, borrowing costs, repairs vs capital improvements, property management fees, travel expenses (subject to rules). There's more available than most people realise, and more traps too.

The ATO specifically targets rental property deductions every year. Getting it right matters both ways: you want to claim everything you're entitled to, and nothing you're not.

We know this area well. ๐Ÿ

One conversation before 30 June can change what you owe on 31 October.

If you haven't looked at your tax position for the year yet, now is the time. Not because you're in trouble, but because the planning window closes at midnight on June 30 and some strategies genuinely can't be done after the fact.

Super contributions, asset purchases, income timing, trust distributions. All of these need decisions made before the financial year ends.

Overdue BAS lodgements attract penalties of $313 per penalty unit, and the ATO can issue multiple units for the same return.

Late individual tax returns and company returns carry their own penalty regime too.

It's not just the fine, it's the interest that accrues on any outstanding tax, and the audit risk that comes with a history of late lodgements.

Filing on time is genuinely one of the easiest ways to save money. We make sure it happens. โœ… www.shireaccounting.com

We're not a national firm with a 1300 number and a ticketing system.

We're a local accounting team that knows the Shire, knows our clients, and picks up the phone when you call.

If you've ever had that experience of not knowing who's actually handling your tax return or waiting weeks for a reply to a simple question, we're the answer to that.

Come in and meet the team. ๐Ÿค

"I'll sort my receipts before 30 June." Three problems with that.

1. By June you've forgotten what half of them were for.
2. Some receipts have faded beyond legible.
3. Your accountant charges by the hour and a shoebox costs you more than a system.

Good record keeping isn't a June job. It takes five minutes at the time, and it means you claim everything you're entitled to.

We can show you a setup that actually works. ๐Ÿงพ

Small businesses can immediately write off eligible asset purchases up to $20,000.

That means equipment, tools, technology, furniture for the office. Buy it before 30 June, use it in your business, and write it off in full rather than depreciating it over years.

There are conditions, and not every purchase qualifies, but for the right business this is a meaningful tax saving.

Not sure if something you're planning to buy counts? Ask us before you purchase. ๐Ÿ’ก
