We’re never called in when things are going well. By the time we’re sitting across from a director, the issue is no longer potential. It’s real. Cash has tightened, pressure has built, and decisions that once felt manageable are now compounding.

And almost every time, we hear it: “We didn’t think it would happen this quickly.”

The truth is… it didn’t.

Congratulations to our very own Henry Kwok on achieving FCPA status!

This is a major milestone and a well-earned recognition of Henry’s expertise, professionalism and commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in the accounting profession.

FCPA is more than a title. It reflects years of experience, leadership, and a strong contribution to the profession, and it is great to see that recognised.

Well done, Henry. A fantastic achievement and very well deserved.

1 July 2027 might be the most important date you’re not planning for.

Not because of what happens then, but because of what you’ll need to prove later.

The proposed CGT changes aren’t just about how gains are taxed. They may require you to prove what your business or assets were worth on that exact date.

A valuation done at the right time could save years of guesswork. Miss it, and you may spend just as long trying to recreate a number no one fully trusts!

A New Date That Could Matter for Every Business Owner Much of the discussion around the Federal Budget’s proposed capital gains tax reforms has focused on how gains will be taxed in the future. However, an equally important question may be: what is your asset worth on 1 July 2027? If the proposed ...

Still holding onto a company you no longer need? Waiting could cost you.

Members’ Voluntary Liquidations will still be a useful way to close a solvent company. But the proposed CGT changes could reduce the tax benefits that have made them attractive.

For business owners already thinking about an MVL, timing now matters. Acting before 1 July 2027 could mean a better outcome and fewer complications. Waiting may lead to higher taxes, extra compliance, and the need for formal valuations.

The option is still there, but it may not work the same way for much longer. Those who review early will have more control. Those who wait may have fewer choices.

Introduction The May 2026 Federal Budget included proposed changes to Australia’s capital gains tax rules. While most headlines have focused on property investors, these changes could also affect business owners who are thinking about using a Members’ Voluntary Liquidation, or MVL, to wind up a ...
