Payday Super kicked in on 1 July 2026 and if you're an employer, you need to be ready.

Super contributions must be paid at the same time as wages and received by your employee's fund within 7 business days of each payday. Quarterly payments are gone.

That means reviewing your payroll systems, updating employee fund details, and understanding the new Super Guarantee Charge that applies if you miss the deadline.

It also means taking a closer look at your cash flow. Paying super every pay cycle instead of quarterly is a real shift in timing, and businesses that plan ahead will be in a much stronger position.

The $3 million super tax came into effect 1 July 2026.

After numerous months of debate, the legislation is finalised and the good news is it's more measured than the original proposal.

Here's what it means in plain terms

▸ Super balances over $3M will attract an additional 15% tax on earnings from that portion

▸ Balances over $10M attract a further 10% on top of that

▸ The changes affect only a small proportion of Australians with very large super balances, including many SMSF members.

Our honest advice? In most cases, leaving your money in super still makes sense. Even with the additional tax, the rate is likely still lower than what you'd pay outside of super.

Stay ahead of your ATO Deadlines!

Here’s what to keep in mind this month:

🚨 1 July | Payday Super begins. From this date, super must be paid at the same time as wages and received by your employee's super fund within 7 business days of each payday. Quarterly super payments are no longer an option.

📅 21 July | Lodge and pay your monthly business activity statement.

📅 28 July | Lodge and pay Q4 (April–June 2026) quarterly BAS and super guarantee contributions for the quarter must be received by your employees' super funds by this date.
