Let’s talk receipts.

Not the glamorous part of business ownership. But absolutely one of the parts that can save you time, stress and a few choice words at tax time.

Try this:

• take the photo before the receipt disappears
• keep email receipts in one folder
• add notes like 'client coffee' or 'office supplies'
• upload receipts into your software if you can
• reconcile while you still remember what the purchase was

A shoebox is not a strategy. A faded receipt in the bottom of your handbag is not a strategy either.

Keep it simple.
Keep it consistent.
Keep it somewhere you can actually find it.

One of the things we love about local business is that the best relationships are built long before anyone needs an invoice, a BAS or a payroll question answered.

ELM Founder, Mel Hevey has always believed in showing up for the business community, not just sitting behind a screen.

Through BNI, Mel continues to build genuine local relationships, support fellow business owners, and stay connected to the real conversations happening in small business: cash flow, staffing, growth, overwhelm, systems and the juggle behind the scenes.

Good bookkeeping is built on trust. Good business communities are too.

That is why networking matters to ELM. It keeps us close to the people we serve.

Fresh financial year. Fresh notebook feeling. Fresh chance to stop avoiding the admin pile.

A few useful questions to ask right now:

• Are your receipts actually saved somewhere sensible?
• Is payroll ready for the year ahead?
• Do you know who owes you money?
• Do your reports make sense when you open them?

The good news - You do not need to become a numbers whiz. You just need good systems, good support and numbers you can actually use.

That is where ELM comes in. Book a chat with us:

END OF FINANCIAL YEAR is here!

And before we all rush into the next financial year, can we press pause for a second? You made it through another year in business.

That is not nothing.

🥰You served clients.
🥰You paid bills.
🥰You solved problems.
🥰You made decisions.
🥰You kept going on the days when it felt hard.

EOFY is not just about reports and receipts. It’s also a moment to look back and say, “Actually, we did a lot.”

At ELM, we see the work that goes on behind the numbers.

So yes, get the books ready.
Yes, book the accountant meeting.
Yes, check the payroll and the super.

But also celebrate yourself a little.
You’ve earned the cuppa, or a glass of bubbly!

Recurring expenses are easy to overlook, but they can quietly affect your bottom line.

Before EOFY, it is worth reviewing subscriptions, software, memberships and regular payments to identify any unnecessary, duplicated or underused costs.

A simple review can help you answer:

Are we still using this service?
Is this plan still suitable?
Are there duplicate tools in the business?
Is the payment coming from the correct account?
Does this expense still support how the business operates?

This is not just a cost-cutting exercise. It is an opportunity to improve visibility and strengthen financial habits.

At ELM Business Support Services, we help business owners understand where their money is going and create cleaner, more efficient bookkeeping processes.

This is your gentle nudge to book that meeting. You know the one?

The accountant meeting.
The financial adviser chat.

The “we really should get onto that before EOFY” conversation.

Before you go, it helps to have your books looking tidy and your reports ready to review. If that list makes you want to put the kettle on and avoid it for another day, we understand.

That’s exactly the kind of thing we help with.

At ELM, Mel, Rachel and Gio can help you get your numbers organised so the bigger conversations feel easier, clearer and much less stressful.

GET READY! Payday Super starts from 1 July 2026.

From that date, employers will need to pay superannuation at the same time as wages, rather than treating it as a quarterly task. Contributions will generally need to reach the employee’s nominated fund within 7 business days.

For many businesses, this will require changes to payroll workflows, cash flow planning, employee records and internal processes.

Now is a good time to review:

🌳Payroll setup
🌳Employee super details
🌳Pay run processes
🌳Cash flow timing
🌳Clearing house or software arrangements
🌳How payroll errors are identified and corrected

At ELM Business Support Services, we help business owners build efficient bookkeeping and payroll processes that make compliance easier to manage.

Payday Super will start in July, but preparation should start now.

EOFY has a funny way of creeping up on you and your business, doesn’t it?

One minute you’re thinking, “We’ve got ages,” and suddenly it’s June and everyone is talking about reports, payroll, super, receipts and accountant meetings.

If that’s you, take a breath.

Start with the basics.

Check what’s unpaid, look over your bills, review payroll, make sure super is up to date, and gather what your accountant might need.

And if you open everything up and think, “Oh goodness, where do I even start?” — that’s exactly the kind of thing we help with.

At ELM, Mel, Rachel and Gio are here to help you sort through it without the panic.

Pop the kettle on.
We’ll get through it with you.
