YOUR MONDAY NEEDS MEL

Does anyone else get to Monday morning and realise the actual work is only half the job?

Then there’s the bookkeeping. Payroll. BAS. Xero. Invoices. All the bits that somehow keep getting pushed down the list while you’re busy actually running the business.

I’m Mel Hevey from ELM Business Support Services, and I work with small business owners across Sydney who want the financial side of things to feel a bit less heavy and a lot more manageable.

I help with bookkeeping, payroll, BAS and IAS lodgements, Xero setup and training, rescue accounting, and the general sorting-out of the things that have been sitting there giving you the guilts.

And I’d really love to connect with more women in business across Sydney.

You do not need to have everything beautifully organised before you ask for help. You do not need to know all the right words. You can come to me with the messy version, the half-finished version, the “I’ve been meaning to sort this for ages” version. We’ll just work out what needs doing and take it from there.

I’ll be at the Celebrating Women Expo 2026 — Come and join the Celebrate Women Movement on Sunday 20 September at The Pumphouse, Novotel Darling Square, and I’d genuinely love you to come over and say hello.

Right, a quick heads up because August has thrown a few dates at us all in the one week.

The July monthly activity statement was due on 21 August. If yours hasn’t gone in yet, don’t hide from it. Call ELM and find out what’s needed.

The June 2026 BAS may be due today, 25 August, if you lodge through a registered agent.

Then the TPAR deadline lands on 28 August for businesses that need to lodge one.

They won’t all apply to everybody, so there’s no need to panic. Just check which ones are yours and make sure whoever is sorting them has what they need.

And if the paperwork is in several places, the software is doing your head in, or you’re not even sure where to begin, come and talk to us at ELM.
We’ve seen it all before. You won’t get a lecture from us.

We’ll pop the kettle on, work out what’s what and get you sorted.

But more paperwork does not always mean more clarity.
Reports should not feel like a foreign language.

If you open your numbers and think, “I have no idea what this is telling me,” that is not a you problem. It is a systems and support problem.

Your reports should help you see:

• what is working
• what is costing too much
• who still needs to pay you
• what needs your attention next

Numbers should not make you feel small.
They should help you feel steady, clear and in control.
