Making Waves with Corin Millais.

Meet Corin. He has spent 39 years campaigning for renewable energy and ethical banking, and has recently retired thanks to Dave’s advice. Now at 61, he spends his days in the vegetable garden and looks forward to whats next. 🥬

“Dave’s advice has literally been life changing; he showed our family it was possible to retire, and we enacted an intentional 2 year plan for me to finish full-time work,” says Corin.

Like many of our clients, Corin wanted to retire with clarity and reassurance that his capital would still continue to work as hard as he did for our planet during his career. 🌍

If you feel the same, read Corin's full story on our website and find out why he chose to work with UNLESS.

This National Carers Week, we want to highlight that care work comes at a cost many don't see until retirement.

New research from Australian Retirement Trust, surveyed by YouGov, found 81% of Australians identify time out of paid work caring for children or family as one of the top 3 reasons women retire with less super than men.

Good news is that 65% of Australians support government-funded super top-ups for carers, and 67% think that support should come as ongoing contributions, not just a bigger Age Pension later. 💛

Markets have been bumpy. Inflation, rising rates and a softer share market can make any plan feel shakier than it is.

So we're going back to our why. Our mission is to help people make their money make a difference, for their future and for our planet.

Financial security and impact can sit in the same plan, even within this economy, and its exactly what we help our clients bring to life at UNLESS.

Ethical Investment Week has kicked off this week in Australia!

This week is run by the Ethical Advisers' Co-op, which one of our Financial Advisers, Justin Medcalf, helped establish in 2011.

This year's theme, "The Legacy We Leave", continues our focus on intergenerational wealth transfer, exploring the range of sub-topics ethical advisers engage with on behalf of clients. Events to get involved can be found on their website: https://www.ethicaladviserscoop.org/ethical-investment-week/

Making Waves with Rob Chan.

Meet Rob. He runs Australia's largest car-sharing marketplace, Turo, helping everyday people earn income from vehicles that would otherwise sit idle. 🚗

Alongside his passion for car sharing, he is a proud dad and deeply connected to community. He's involved in 5 organisations, hosts 3 meetups, and strongly believes in lowering barriers for others.

Like many of our clients, Rob wanted financial advice in the middle of his career, not at retirement. He wanted his money to fund the world he's working towards, not just grow. 🌍

If that's you too, read Rob's full story on our website and find out why he chose to work with UNLESS.

Given this new stat, Australia's top superannuation funds are very far from achieving the Australian Government's target to achieve 82% renewable electricity by 2030.

Where do you and your super fund stand?

World Cleanup Day began in Estonia in 2008, when 50,000 people set out to clean their entire country in a single day. In five hours, they collected more than 10,000 tonnes of rubbish. The idea became known as Let's Do It!, and it did not stay in Estonia for long....

By 2018, that one country, one day formula had gone global. 🌍 World Cleanup Day, supported by the United Nations, now runs across almost every country on the planet, with millions of volunteers taking part each year, and returns again this Sunday, 20 September.

If you would like to get involved, find a cleanup happening near you this weekend: https://www.worldcleanupday.org/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=15686334133&gbraid=0AAAAACNFrPzU93tZU2uv9vFNUyv_17XiU&gclid=CjwKCAjwn67VBhBnEiwAXUIN1d8Cu53UaH4XhdSbAnPTEAyW18XMX4eJTEx_demz3CqEX6xEKFDe4BoCdZUQAvD_BwE

We spent a couple of hours out of the office last week at Pocket City Farms, an urban farm growing food on the old bowling greens in Camperdown, Sydney.

Alongside the market garden, they run education programs focused on regenerative agriculture, composting, permaculture and water saving.

We harvested crops and learned more about the farm’s operations and purpose. Hands in the soil, fresh air, contributing to the community and a wonderful chance for a bit of team bonding. 🌱

155,253 people in the UK just forced a climate debate into Parliament. 🌍

The government had already responded back in June, pointing to plans it already had. People kept signing anyway, and once the petition passed 100,000 signatures it had to be considered for debate.

Congratulations to everyone who stood up for the change they want to see in their community. 👏

The same arithmetic works here. Shareholder resolutions, super fund switches, open letters and petitions all run on it. Individual actions only look small until they are added up.
