On Tuesday evening Mansell Financial Services in conjunction with Precision Legal held the Courageous Hearts Charity Dinner, hosting 90 guests at Lambert Estate in Angaston.

The purpose of the event was to raise much needed awareness and funds for RUN DIPG. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and DMG (Diffuse Midline Glioma), a brain tumour that impacts around 25 children in Australia every year. With no treatment, no cure and an average survival rate of 11 months from diagnosis.

A special thank you to North and AMP Australia with bringing our Key Note Speaker, Dr Shane Oliver, Chief Economist at AMP, who provided an entertaining economic update.

The purpose of this event was to support Shannon Garrett with his target of raising $100,000 for the foundation. Shannon shared his personal journey with this disease and his inspirational story having recently completed the Tour du Mont Blanc and The Ox.

Our fund raising efforts raised over $18,000 and with the support of AMP Foundation matching our efforts the final amount donated to RUN DIPG was over $36,000.

This week the team has been away from the office attending the AMP Advice Live Conference. The learnings and take outs were flowing thick and fast and we're looking forward to implementing some exciting changes. Our week was wrapped up with a wonderful Gala Dinner. Absolutely love working with the team.

Here's some interesting insights from Shane Oliver in relation to the escalation of tensions in Ukraine. At MFS we take a significant amount of time to educate our clients about diversification and volatility within portfolios. I found the historical facts surrounding volatility during a Crisis Event very interesting. Shane's message is to investors is "stick to an appropriate long term investment strategy", of which I completely agree with. We can never time the market, only ever spend time in the market.
