Pay Day Super is now law, and it starts from 1 July 2026. For small business employers with 1-5 staff, this doesn’t mean new software or dramatic system changes. It does mean a shift in habit. Super will need to be paid at the same time as wages - not quarterly. That means tighter cash flow management and more disciplined payroll processes. Now is the time to review.

It’s back to school this week for all our teachers - so what better way to clear up some common tax-time confusion. It’s also a good time for teachers to get organised with receipts for purchases, work from home diaries and travel/mileage logs for work trips.

If you’re an employer - don’t forget to hop in and ‘finalise’ your payroll via STP. Although you no longer have to issue Group Certificates to your employees - you do have this final step to do, so your Team can get their own personal tax affairs in order.

Lodging too early can actually delay your refund. Our advice is to wait until after the 21st July. Employers have until at least the 14th July to finalise payment summaries. Plus - you need to make sure any investment income such as interest or dividends has been uploaded to your myGov too.

Super Guarantee has now increased from the 1st of July to 12%. Most STP compliant software will apply the increase automatically - so most people won’t need to do anything. Check with your software provider if you are unsure - or go into your payroll settings and manually increase it if you need to.
