🚨 Scammers don't take a break at tax time, and neither should your vigilance.

The end of the financial year is one of the busiest times for scammers, who know many Australians are expecting tax refunds, ATO correspondence and financial paperwork.

Here are a few common scams to watch out for:
πŸ“± Fake ATO text messages promising refunds.
πŸ“§ Phishing emails pretending to be myGov.
☎️ Calls demanding immediate tax payments or threatening legal action.
πŸ’³ Fake invoices or requests to update bank account details.

Before you click a link, make a payment or share personal information, take a moment to stop and verify the source.

Remember:
βœ… The ATO won't demand immediate payment using gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfers.
βœ… Always access myGov by typing the official website into your browserβ€”not through links in emails or text messages.
βœ… If you're unsure, contact your accountant before taking action.

A little caution today could save you thousands tomorrow.

Tax Time Reminder ⏰

Before you hit "lodge", make sure you're not leaving money on the table. πŸ’°

Tax time isn't just about ticking boxes; it's an opportunity to maximise your return while making sure everything is accurate and compliant.

A few common mistakes we see:
βœ”οΈ Forgetting to claim work-related expenses you're entitled to.
βœ”οΈ Missing income from investments or side hustles.
βœ”οΈ Lodging before all your information has been finalised.

A little preparation now can save a lot of stress later.

Need a hand? Our team is here to help make tax time as smooth as possible.

✨ From spreadsheets to sparkle! ✨

After one of the busiest times of the year, the team swapped calculators for cocktails and celebrated the end of the financial year in true style at our Glitz & Glam party at Loulaki on Friday night. πŸ₯‚βœ¨

For us, the end of the financial year is much more than just a date on the calendar. It's the culmination of months of hard work helping individuals, families and businesses navigate deadlines, stay compliant, and set themselves up for the year ahead.

We're incredibly proud of our team for the dedication, professionalism and care they show our clients throughout the year, especially during EOFY when the pace is at its peak.

A well-deserved evening of great food, plenty of laughs, and a chance to celebrate another successful financial year together.

Here's to a fantastic 2026–27 and continuing to help our clients achieve their financial goals.

πŸ‰ STATE OF ORIGIN: RS EDITION πŸ‰

The rivalry is heating up at Robertson Scannell ahead of Game II, with team loyalties well and truly on display!

On one side, we have the mighty Maroons supporters proudly flying the Queensland colours and confidently predicting another victory. On the other, a brave (some might say optimistic) group of Blues fans holding onto the hope that this will be the game New South Wales turns things around.

The office has already seen plenty of friendly banter, a few questionable predictions, and our Practice Manager Peter having to defend his shirt colour choice today.

πŸ“£ Tax time is almost here – and there are a few new things to keep in mind for your 2025–26 tax return.

βœ”οΈ Working from home? Make sure you have the right records to support your claim.
βœ”οΈ Gig economy income? The ATO is receiving more data than ever from ride-share, delivery, freelancing and online platform providers.
βœ”οΈ Investment income? Increased data matching means interest, dividends and investment property income are under closer scrutiny.
βœ”οΈ Crypto transactions? Buying, selling, swapping or staking cryptocurrency may have tax implications.
βœ”οΈ Super contributions? Check you've stayed within contribution caps and retained records for any personal deductible contributions.

The ATO continues to expand its data-matching capabilities, making accurate record-keeping more important than ever.

If you're unsure how these changes may affect you, our team is here to help. 🧑

⏰ EOFY is almost here!

With 30 June fast approaching, now is the time to get your tax records in order and make sure you're not leaving anything until the last minute.

A few things to keep in mind for your 2025/26 tax return:

βœ… Keep records of all work-related expenses - the ATO continues to focus on substantiating claims.
βœ… Working from home? Make sure you have records of your hours worked and supporting documentation for any deductions claimed.
βœ… Small business owners may still be able to take advantage of the $20,000 instant asset write-off before 30 June.
βœ… Super Guarantee has increased to 12% from 1 July 2025, so ensure your payroll and reporting are up to date.

The best tax outcomes don't happen on 30 June, they happen when you plan ahead.

If you're unsure what you can claim or want to discuss strategies before the financial year ends, the team at Robertson Scannell is here to help.
