Tayla and Emma were proud to represent Careers in Gear at the QTA Diversity Breakfast, surrounded by key industry players who are passionate about supporting the next generation and driving real change.

Careers in Gear was built from the ground up, with a simple belief: students can’t be what they can’t see.

We’re grateful to sit at tables like this, connect with like-minded people and share our vision for a grassroots, boots-on-the-ground program that inspires students to explore the opportunities our industry has to offer.

The momentum is building and we’re excited about the people and partnerships helping us make it happen. 💪

Another first for Careers In Gear!

Today we delivered our very first online session for the Distance Education students of Charters Towers School of Distance Education.

Together, we explored:
✅ The incredible opportunities within the transport industry
✅ Tayla's career journey from accountant to business manager
✅ What it takes to become an employee of choice

One of the most important messages we shared was this:

**Employers aren't looking for perfection. They're looking for people who are willing to learn, grow, and keep improving**

Distance Education students hold a special place in our Careers In Gear story. They were the first school to join one of our tour days, and now they've become the first to participate in an online lesson as well.

There's something pretty exciting about breaking new ground together. 🌱

If you were in the Burdekin last night you would have found us here! These evenings are such great opportunities for parents to engage for advice as much as students.

This week saw us out and about on a Tour Day with 14 students and 3 teachers from a local Townsville School. We looked at linehaul, warehousing, truck dealership, trades, quarrying and fuel supply.

An amazing result at the end of the day with 12 of 14 students requesting to complete work experience in one of the careers they came across.

Local businesses are vital to the success of the tour from our finanical sponsors to our program partners and all of the people on the day donating their time.

This week Tayla and the trusty shark truck took a trip to Proserpine where we talked to over 50 students about Careers In Gear! Teenagers are a challenge but this school was such a delight to work with.

We asked the students for some feedback afterwards, it included comments like:
I can do a lot more that I thought
It has shown me the vitality of trucks
I enjoyed learning about the big variety of jobs in the industry

This is why we do it, to change the next generations perspective one conversation at a time 🚛

What a week Truck Week 2026 has been! 🚛💨

From kicking things off with the Health Heads toolbox at Primary Connect, to chatting careers at Ignatius Park College, and wrapping up at the Townsville State High careers expo. It’s been a massive few days of conversations, connections, and future pathways.

The inquisitive questions from students has been unreal, and we’re hopeful we’ll see some of these fresh faces rolling through transport industry doors very soon. Truck Week 2026!
Yesterday I had the opportunity to deliver a Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds toolbox with the Primary Connect Townsville RDC. They're one of the many businesses who support our high school tours, along with the team at Morgan Transport Group.

Careers In Gear isn’t just about growing workforce, it’s also about elevating our industry, connecting our community and working as a team. Getting our current workforce to think a little deeper on how their actions today can impact the industry tomorrow. Yesterday's chat was focussed around building back old school comradery and looking out for your mates. Asking Are You OK? And leaving room for a response, not just the usual Yeh All Good.
