Are You and Your Family Protected?
It’s now been 7 years since I launched Navigate Finance and Wealth, and one of the cornerstones of our business has always been about so much more than just loans.
Yes, we help clients secure finance to buy their homes, cars or invest in businesses, but just as importantly, we also offer guidance across broader financial interests - like superannuation and life insurance.
Most of our clients are between the ages of 25 and 55, with children (or planning to have them), and a sizable mortgage. They’ve spent years saving a deposit, building their dreams - and often, they’re only one unexpected event away from serious financial stress.

Why We Have Certain Conversations with Clients
Let me share a real story (names changed for privacy) that highlights why these conversations matter.
Case Study: Mr & Mrs X
They first came to me around 4 years ago, both in their 40s, with kids and a fairly typical setup:
• A $400k mortgage
• A car loan
• Everyday expenses (school fees, utilities, groceries, house insurance)
• Around $130k in super for Mr X, and $170k for Mrs X
• Minimal life and income protection cover

The Event: Breast Cancer
In March 2025, Mrs X was diagnosed with breast cancer requiring invasive surgery and a long recovery.
Mr X reached out to see if they had any income protection options, as Mrs X had limited sick and annual leave available.
Thankfully, due to a conversation we’d had years earlier, the following cover was already in place:
✅ Critical Illness Cover – A $175,000 lump sum was paid directly into their account within 24 hours of lodging the claim
✅ Income Protection Insurance – Mrs X is eligible to receive up to 70% of her income for 12 months (~$85k total). The insurer has even arranged a dedicated return-to-work advisor.

The Impact
While the diagnosis was devastating, the financial relief was immediate.
• The lump sum will help cover medical bills and a much-needed family holiday.
• The ongoing payments mean they can keep paying the mortgage, bills, and school fees without worrying about cashflow.
