If it’s your only job, or main source of income, yes, you should claim the tax-free threshold on your TFN declaration form.

This means, the first $18,200 you earn each year is tax free.

But it’s important to know, your employer might still take tax out of your pay if it looks like you’ll earn more than $18,200 (just to be safe).

If you don’t end up earning more than $18,200, you’ll get the tax back when you lodge your return.

If you have multiple jobs, only claim the tax-free threshold from ONE of them (usually the highest paying).

The tax-free threshold applies to your TOTAL income, not to each job separately. So, if job 1, job 2 and job 3 all think they’re your only employer, they might not withhold enough tax.

The ATO has extended the acceptance of credit cards for tax debts until 30 June 2027, and while the expanded timeline is welcomed by some, many are still concerned by the lack of consultation with the tax profession.

📢 Reminder: Card payment surcharge changes start today.

From 1 October 2026, businesses can no longer apply surcharges to card payments, including Visa, Mastercard, eftpos and American Express transactions. These changes follow reforms by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

If your business previously charged card surcharges, now is the time to review your pricing, payment systems and arrangements with payment providers.

While card processing costs still apply, the reforms are also expected to help reduce some card payment costs for businesses.

This scam email looks like it’s from Westpac and asks you to verify your identity.

While we may contact customers to confirm their personal information, Westpac will never ask you to verify your identity by clicking a link in an email or SMS.

If you’re unsure, use the Westpac App or type westpac.com.au directly into your browser.

What to look for:

🚩 Requests to verify your details through a link or button
🚩 Generic or vague wording
🚩 Being addressed by your email address instead of your name
🚩 Suspicious sender email addresses or domains

If you believe you've received a scam impersonating Westpac, forward it to [email protected] before deleting it.
