Every morning begins with a fresh page.

Not an empty one—a page filled with opportunity.

I may not know exactly what the day will bring.
I may not have every answer immediately.
And I may not yet see the complete picture.

But experience has taught me that progress begins by taking the next practical step.

One conversation can provide clarity.
One decision can create a new direction.
One small action today can build a stronger future.

Whether I am helping a client understand their financial position, supporting a small business through change, or working towards one of my own goals, I believe that meaningful results come from clarity, consistency and genuine personal service.

At Blue Orchid Accounting, every client has a different story—and every new page is an opportunity to help that story move forward.

Start with clarity.
Move forward with confidence.
Build something meaningful.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO DIRECTOR ID OBLIGATIONS:
Changes to Australia’s business registers are being introduced to make them easier to use and more accurate.

What you need to know:
From 1 July 2027, new laws will require companies to provide director IDs to ASIC when updating company details.
The changes will:
• reduce the risk of fraud and identity misuse
• improve the accuracy of company records
• make it easier to identify company directors
• improve the quality and usability of registry information.

How it will work:
Companies will need to provide director IDs to ASIC through company reporting processes, including the annual review or when notifying changes to directors’ details.
Over time, the companies register will display whether a company has provided director IDs for its directors. Further information and guidance will be provided before 1 July 2027.

What do I need to do now?
Check your company and director details are up to date.
New laws from 1 July 2027 will change how director information is recorded. Keeping your details up to date now will help avoid delays or issues later.
Take a few minutes now to make sure your details are correct:
• check your company details are up-to-date
• confirm all current directors are listed
• update any incorrect names, addresses or contact details

💜 Division 7A: What business owners need to know

Taking money or receiving benefits from a private company can have unexpected tax consequences.

Division 7A may treat certain transactions as unfranked dividends, including:

• Shareholder loans and drawings
• Private expenses paid by the company
• Transfers of company assets
• Debts forgiven by the company
• Certain trust and unpaid entitlement arrangements

To reduce the risk, shareholder loans should be reviewed before the company’s tax return is lodged. Where required, loans must be placed under a complying written agreement, charged interest at the annual benchmark rate and meet minimum yearly repayment requirements.

Good record-keeping and early planning are essential. Review all shareholder and related-party accounts before 30 June—and again before lodging the company tax return.

Read our latest blog to learn more about Division 7A and how it may affect your business.

🚨 If you rely on a hidden phone for your safety, it's important to know about Australia's new emergency alert system, AusAlert.

AusAlert is a new national emergency warning system that can send urgent safety messages directly to compatible mobile phones, including alerts that may bypass silent and "Do Not Disturb" settings.

A national test of the system is scheduled for 2pm (AEST) on 27 July 2026, following community trials across Australia, including in Queensland.

If you have a hidden device:

📱 Be aware that Critical Alerts may sound even if your phone is on silent.
📱 Critical Alerts won't sound on Aeroplane mode or a device that is switched off.
📱Because Critical Alerts cannot activate on a device that is switched off, if it is safe to do so, consider turning off a hidden device before a scheduled test and only turning it back on once the test period has ended.

AusAlert is designed to help keep communities safe during emergencies, disasters and other nationally significant events. As these systems are rolled out, the safety needs of people experiencing domestic and family violence must remain part of the conversation.

🇺🇸🇦🇺 Exciting News for American Expats Living in Australia! 🇦🇺🇺🇸

Blue Orchid Accounting is pleased to announce that we can now assist American citizens and Green Card holders residing in Australia with their U.S. tax compliance and lodgement obligations.

Many American expats are surprised to learn that they may be required to lodge annual U.S. tax returns, even while living and working in Australia. In addition to Australian tax obligations, U.S. citizens may also need to comply with requirements such as:

✅ U.S. Federal Income Tax Returns
✅ Foreign Bank Account Reporting (FBAR)
✅ FATCA Reporting Requirements
✅ Foreign Income and Asset Disclosures
✅ Assistance with Dual Tax Obligations

Navigating two tax systems can be complex, but our team can help simplify the process and work with you to ensure your reporting obligations are met accurately and on time.

Whether you are an American who has recently moved to Australia, have lived here for many years, or are unsure if you have outstanding U.S. lodgement obligations, we are here to help.

📞 Contact Blue Orchid Accounting today to discuss your situation and find out how we can assist.

🚨 Important Compliance Update for Our Clients 🚨

At Blue Orchid Accounting, we are committed to keeping our clients informed and ensuring we remain ahead of regulatory changes that may impact businesses.

As part of Australia's ongoing Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) reforms, additional compliance requirements will apply to many professional service providers.

We would like to advise our clients that the necessary systems, procedures, and compliance measures have already been implemented within our firm to ensure we are prepared for these changes.

From 1 July 2026, our updated AML/CTF processes will formally take effect. As a result, you may notice additional identity verification requirements, requests for updated information, and enhanced client due diligence procedures when engaging our services.

These measures are designed to protect both our clients and the integrity of Australia's financial system while ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as these changes are introduced. If you have any questions regarding the new requirements or how they may affect you or your business, please contact our office.
