Be careful of - taxes on shrinkflation.
In Canada, if food items are pre-packaged for sale to consumers in quantities of less than six, these products are taxed. Grocery shopping is complicated enough, but now, due to shrinkflation, consumers have to worry about how much more they need to pay. Depending on the province you live in, it could add 5% to 13% more to the price tag of some products you’re buying. And chances are, you have likely never noticed.

This was intended to decipher between 'snacks' and foods for when the GST tax was implemented. If you're in an HST province, like Ontario, it means + 13% tax!.

Do you check your grocery receipts? I have started to make sure I check each time, before I leave the store.

Shrinkflation has bothered many people for a very long time. The taxman has given another reason why we should hate shrinkflation even more

Budget 2023 - Alternative minimum tax

The alternative minimum tax (AMT) is a parallel tax calculation that allows fewer deductions, exemptions and tax credits than under the ordinary income tax rules. The taxpayer pays the AMT or their regular income tax, whichever is highest.
Budget 2023 proposes to increase the AMT rate from 15% to 20.5% of AMT taxable income and raise the AMT exemption from $40,000 to the start of the fourth federal tax bracket (approximately $173,000 for the 2024 tax year). The AMT exemption would be indexed to inflation annually.
