We've recently received reports of people getting texts, supposedly from the Canada Revenue Agency.
For research purposes, (I do not recommend doing this), I called the 1-800 number provided, and reached a legitimate sounding menu. Eventually, a person answered, who also sounded credible, but after only a few probing questions he resorted to profanity and hung up.
These scams are getting more and more elaborate, but please be aware that CRA will not contact you by text. Notifications will come by letter or by email if you have registered for online mail.
