There are some major incentives being put in place this year to help make purchasing a home more affordable for young Canadians.

1. There is now a two-year ban on foreign purchases of Canadian houses to ensure houses are used as homes to live in, and not used as financial assets for foreign investors.

2. A new 1% annual vacant home tax on foreign-owned underused housing now applies to make the housing market more affordable for Canadians, and to ensure that non-resident owners of Canadian housing pay their fair share of tax.

3. Investigation of speculation that contributes to higher home prices by applying the GST/HST Tax to all assignment sales of newly constructed housing.
