After doing some research, I collected a bunch of data and had it put into a photo to make it easier to read.

As you know, my ACCOUNTING HEAD always needs to understand the actual numbers and how they've shifted. I’ve always been curious to find out more because the media often tries to paint a beautiful picture, but in my years of accounting, I’ve had to explain to clients over and over why they’ve lost money in areas they weren’t even aware of.

🚨 It’s a pattern I see every year: clients come to me for bookkeeping and taxes thinking they’re getting so much more money back based on what they’ve been told. Then, when the real numbers are sitting in front of us, I’m the one who gets the "wonderful" job of having to explain to them why the math doesn't actually favor them.

I always look to see what we've truly gained versus what we've truly lost. From my preliminary digging, here is what I’ve found:

📉 REBATE REMOVAL: The Canada Carbon Rebate for individuals was officially removed following a final quarterly payment in April 2025. While the rebate is gone, the costs at the pump continue to climb.

🕵️ HIDDEN COSTS: While the main Carbon Tax gets the headlines, we now have the Clean Fuel Regulation (the "second carbon tax") being passed down to us. Essentially, the charge to the consumer is still there—and increasing—it’s just tucked under a different heading. To put that in perspective, this "hidden" regulation alone adds roughly $4.00 to $5.00 to every 70L tank of gas—a cost that isn't even listed on the pump receipt.

🛑 TEMPORARY BREAK: We are getting a small break on the 10-cent Federal Excise tax until September 2026, but as an accountant, I can see that once that comes back, the total federal tax load will be at its highest point yet.

I’m going to do some more digging, but I thought this was a good start to showing the real impact on our wallets versus the "picture" that's usually painted for us.

Our phone lines have been down since yesterday. I’m currently on a chat with my service provider while they investigate the issue. I've been on with them for over an hour now. It appears I’m not the only one affected — there may be an area-wide outage.

One of the things I value most about my work is the opportunity to help others.

Yesterday, I had an amazing meeting with MP Andrew Lawton, where we discussed ongoing challenges and concerns involving the Canada Revenue Agency.

I was proud to advocate for meaningful changes to better support both clients and fellow accountants who are navigating these issues every day.

It was a productive and encouraging conversation, and I’m hopeful that it will lead to positive change. Looking forward to what’s ahead.

Over the past several years, I’ve been watching a significant shift in how the government is enforcing rules around business and investments. Many things Canadians have done for years — often with little to no scrutiny — are now being reviewed very closely, and enforcement has become much stricter.The government is now enforcing rules much more aggressively,

I hear it all the time from clients: “I’ve always done it this way,” or “My previous accountant said it was fine,” or “Everyone I know does this.” Many people genuinely believed certain practices were allowed because they existed in grey areas that went unchecked for years.

That has changed. This government is moving quickly and aggressively to close loopholes and enforce rules that were previously overlooked. Since Trudeau came into power, I’ve watched them cycle through different areas one by one, and Canadians are now being hit hard with penalties, interest, and reassessments for things they were previously told were “allowed.” Just because it was common — or accepted in the past — doesn’t mean it’s safe now. Get informed and correct any errors immediately before penalties and interest grow any higher.

Know your worth- know who your target market is.
You dictate what you are worth - if someone thinks you are not worth it they are likely not your target market.

A father said to his son , "You graduated with honors. Here is a Volkswagen beetle that i bought many years ago ... It is over 50years old , but before I give it to you, take it to a dealership downtown and ask how much there are offering you."

The son went to the dealership, came back to his father and said, "They offered me $10,000 because it looks very used." The father said, "Take it to a pawn shop."

The son went to the pawn shop, came back and said, "They only offered me $1,000 because they say it is too old."

Finally, the father asked his son to take the car to a classic car club and show it there. The son took the car to the club, came back and said, "Some people at the club offered me $100,000! because it is a very rare car and sought after among the members."

The father said to his son, "I wanted you to understand that the right place appreciates you in the right way. If they don't value you, don't be angry, it just means you're in the wrong place. Those who know your value are the ones who truly appreciate you. Never stay in a place where they don't recognize your value!"
