The over-arching goal of Talok is to, on behalf of Lake Babine Nation, extract the full benefits offered by the sockeye salmon resources in the Lake Babine watershed. This does not mean simply catching the maximum amount of fish, or selling for the highest price, or cutting costs to the bone, or having the largest-possible payroll. Rather, maximizing benefits means finding a graceful balance betwe
en three fundamental goals:
• Sustainable management and harvest of the fish resources of the Lake Babine Watershedthis is a core value of the Lake Babine people and cannot be compromised.
• Profitable and efficient operationsthe global salmon industry is highly competitive, and Talok must earn its place in it. Talok will conduct its business intelligently and with a view to earning a reasonable financial return.
• Community jobs and benefitsenhancing incomes and opportunities for community members is a critical function of the company. A growing company can provide ever-expanding benefits for its shareholders: the people of Lake Babine Nation. Under the current Board structure, community members (5 Directors) comprise a majority of the Board.
