Early in my career, I was so focused on getting clients that I didn't invest time in documenting my processes. My team was doing things differently. Clients weren't getting consistent service. And I was working 60-hour weeks trying to keep it all together.

If you work with contractors or freelancers, listen up. Tax season is here, and missing these deadlines can cost you big time.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

**W9 FORMS**
Deadline: Before you pay the contractor
What it is: A form contractors fill out so you have their tax ID and address on file
Why it matters: You MUST have this before paying anyone. No exceptions.
What happens if you miss it: You can't file 1099s accurately, and you risk penalties.

**1099-NEC & 1099-MISC FORMS**
Deadline for sending to contractors: January 31, 2026
Deadline for filing with IRS: March 31, 2026 (electronic filing)
What they are: Forms showing how much you paid contractors during the year
Why it matters: Contractors need these to file their taxes. The IRS tracks these too.
What happens if you miss it: Penalties, audit risk, and angry contractors.
