Just a little heads up for those of you collecting the Rural supplement on your Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR). CRA just took back the rural supplement for the last 3 years from a lot of people without any notice on March 15th. There were no Notices of Reassessment sent and no bulletins were released, they just took it back. This will reduce your final CCR payment for 2025 or will be taken from your personal tax refund. (Update: The Notices went out today...one month later.)
The terminology was misleading. It originally asked if you lived outside a major metropolitan area, but it was meant to ask if you lived outside a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). For those of you who don't know the difference, Calgary is a major metropolitan area, but it has a greater CMA which includes Calgary, Airdrie, Rocky View County, Cochrane, Chestermere, Crossfield, Tsuu T'ina Nation, Irricana, and Beiseker.
So if you live in any of these areas and collected the rural supplement of the CCR, you will want to check your CRA account.
This means if you live in the City of Okotoks, you qualify, but if you live on a farm or acreage in Rocky View County, you don't.
