My aunty died of breast cancer when she was only 32. I was 15 at time.

I saw what she went through, and I saw the lasting impact it left on our family. That was almost 40 years ago, and she is still missed very much today.

So in memory of Jane, this October ElleTree HR Consulting is donating $27 to Breast Cancer Canada for every Full Vault Pass to The ElleTree 27 HR Solutions Vault sold between 1 and 31 October 2026. Single solutions don’t count towards the donation.

Day four of the vault.

Today’s problem is the one nobody wants to name out loud: the person who hits every number and makes everyone around them smaller. Managing them means holding two true things at once, they’re valuable, and they’re doing damage. Most leaders pick one and lose on the other.

The bit that changes everything: you don’t have to pick. Structure lets you hold both.

Most AI job description tools have no way of flagging a pay range that falls below minimum wage for where you’re actually hiring. They’ll generate exactly what you typed, compliant or not.

I filmed this so you could see the difference instead of just hearing me describe it.

Partway through building a job description in Sprout by KindHire™, I entered a wage that came in under minimum wage for the selected jurisdiction. Sprout caught it immediately, flagged it clearly, and gave me the choice to fix it or apply its own suggestion, before anything was generated.

That’s the piece a lot of “AI for hiring” tools skip entirely. Writing the sentences is the easy 80%. Catching the thing that could actually get a business in trouble is the harder, more useful 20%.

The "niche down" advice is killing HR impact.

One industry. One problem. Simple, searchable, scalable. It sounds great on paper, but I’ve never been able to make it fit the reality of what I see.

Two businesses can have the same headcount and the same industry, but completely different souls.

A retention issue at a 40-person logistics company isn't the same as a retention issue at a 40-person agency. Their histories are different. Their leadership "debt" is different. Applying a formula to both is a recipe for landing flat.

HR isn't a plug-and-play product. It’s a practice.

My "niche" isn't a sector. It’s a stage - the Messy Middle. (ha ha - spot the theatre kid!)

It's that point where you've outgrown the "we'll just figure it out" phase, but you aren't ready for a full-time HR Director. You need someone to look at the whole system, not just the fire that’s currently burning in the corner of the office.
