So proud of my son, Tyler for all that he has accomplished. He is living proof that with hard work and determination any goal can be reached!

Member profile: Tyler

Tyler has been a Paid-On-Call Firefighter for the past two years, balancing service to the community with a full-time career as an accountant. Driven by a desire to give back, Tyler joined the fire service to serve the community when it matters most.

One of the things Tyler is most proud of is the calm, focused approach when the tones go off—taking a moment to mentally prepare for what’s on the other side of the call and trusting the training and skills built through practice.

Tyler thrives on the challenges of training, especially with the strong support of fellow team members. His favourite drill? Pulling hose lines—a hands-on skill that keeps everyone sharp and ready.

Something Tyler wishes the public knew more about is just how well the fire department supports Paid-On-Call firefighters, particularly through ongoing training and development.

Advice for new recruits:
Embrace the challenge. Firefighting is a lifetime of learning, and the best approach is to build skills one step at a time.

Thank you, Tyler, for your dedication, commitment, and service to our community!

My heart breaks for another mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC. A small community is devastated and there are no words to explain why this happened. My sister lives there and she was under lockdown while the events unfolded. She was also living here in Debert when the mass shooting happened here. Let’s all send our love and good thoughts to Tumbler Ridge as families start the process of saying good-bye to their loved ones and try to put the pieces of life back together.

I got a question from Rosemary:
"If you have a teenager who gets a part time job, does it affect the parents income tax?"
My response:
No, your teenager working will not affect your income tax return. In Nova Scotia, there is no deduction for children so the income of the child is not reported on the parents tax return. The child should also file a tax return to see if any deductions that were made on the income made for the year can be refundable back to the child or if they qualify for additional credits. Once the child reaches the age of 19, returns should be filed even if there is no income to report in order that they can be registered for any GST or other credits. If your child attends a college/university, there are other credits that can be claimed under the tuition rules.

I don't see any business/tax questions in the comment section of my post so I thought that if you would rather send your question in messenger to keep your identity private, I will see your question and provide the answer on Buffers page. Or maybe..... we have no questions?

As I am winding down heading towards retirement at the end of this year, I would like to open the floor to any income tax/busines/HST questions that I can answer for you before you file your reports or returns. I will take the first 3 questions each day. This will continue until the end of February. For example- would you like to know about medical expenses, disability tax credits, taxable income, how to charge and file HST? Can’t promise that I will have all the answers but I will definitely try my best. So ask away and then check back tomorrow to see how this goes!

With the start of a new year, I am asking anyone anywhere who knows anything about the missing children- Jack and Lilly Sullivan to please come forward and inform the RCMP. My heart is heavy as my hope is that these children are found and that the answers are found as to what happened to them. $150,000 reward to bring those children back. Do right for these children.
