To one and all, from my family to yours, we wish this holiday season is lit up with the company of loved ones, with sunshine on snow, with happy memories of the past and with creating new ones to treasure. Reach out to tell someone you care. That may be exactly what that person needs. Blessings and best wishes to all.

The year is ending and you may want to think about tax considerations. Think about RRSP contributions, topping up your donations, triggering a capital loss of you have an investment that did do well this year, gathering up your medical receipts.... If you turned 71 this year be sure to change your RRSP to an income plan or all of it will be taxed in 2024. This can create a big tax bill. You can invest in an annuity: guaranteed income for life: like a personal pension plan. You can invest in a RRIF: This allows you to take out different amounts each year. There are minimums. You have flexibility but you may run out of money. A Guaranteed Minimum Withdrawal Plan RRIF guarantees income but not the cash. You can take extra cash but that will reduce the guarantees. If you wish to discuss options, contact us to set up a convenient appointment. Happy Christmas And Merry New Year.

Sandy and Chris want to buy their first home within the next three years. The First Home Savings Account (FHSA) is the way to go. They can put up to $8,000 each year into an FHSA and save taxes just like they do on an RRSP. But, if they use it to buy a home, they will not have to pay taxes with they use it.

Even if they put less than $8,000 each, they could, for example, put $33 each every week for 3 years into their FHSA and they will have $10,296 (without interest. You have many investment choices and can expect to earn income.)That is enough to put the 5% down payment on a $205,920 house.

Call us at (709)635-4090 if this is an idea you want to discuss. I can forward you a FREE PDF with a summary of the rules. Your dream of buying a home can come true.
