2023 Income Tax Updates

3. Work-From-Home COVID-19 Tax Credit Removed
4. Ontario Staycation Credit Removed
5. Deductions for Trades Tools increased to $1,000

I thought I would share this information pertaining to claiming massages on income tax returns. NOT ALL PROVINCES ALLOW IT, there is a huge misunderstanding regarding claiming these.

We are only a little over a week away from the 2022 tax season opening up. If you have not already done so could you please authorize me as a representative. If you have already completed this, thank you!

With this access I can ensure that you are not missing any documents and I can also confirm if you have any carry forward amounts our outstanding items you may not be aware of.

This process makes it easier and more efficient for both you and I to prepare your returns.

If you want me to prepare the document for you just let me know, it only takes a few minutes. (But I still recommend that you get your CRA account set up).

Preparation Tips

 The tax season opens on Feb 20 (just let me know when you want me to complete your return)
 Most tax documents need to be sent out by Feb 28
 RRSP contributions – if you contribute you need to wait until at least the first week of March to ensure your first 60 days contribution slips are ready
 Start compiling documents that are not on T-Slips (rental income, small business, child care, etc.)
 You can claim two trips per person if you live in a qualified Northern Residence (I need the actual amount of expenses per trip and the names of each person who travelled)

Hello,

The tax season is quickly approaching, and I wanted to try and make it easier for you to provide your tax documents to me. I still only charge $50.00 per personal tax return and $75.00 for rental income/small business returns. It doesn’t matter which province you live in as everything can be electronic.

If you choose to authorize me you will only have to provide any changes to your circumstances, such as address change, marital status, and any other additional information like the Northern Residence Allowance, rental income or small business income; etc.

You will be able to delete me as an authorized rep at any time should you choose through your CRA account.

If you are interested in my being able to import your CRA tax documents to your tax return, you can authorize me in one of two ways.

You can go directly to Canada.ca and log into your CRA account. I would suggest creating a CRA account if you have not already done so, it is very beneficial, OR I can send you a form to sign that I can submit online on your behalf.

This is the information you will need if you log into your CRA account.

FYI, New One Time Housing Benefit

The one-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit will provide a tax-free payment of $500 to an estimated 1.8 million lower-income renters who are struggling with the cost of housing.

This top-up is available to applicants with an adjusted net income below $35,000 for families, or below $20,000 for single Canadians, who pay at least 30 per cent of their adjusted net income towards rent.

The CRA will begin receiving applications and processing payments for the benefit starting December 12, 2022.

The one-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit is a tax-free one-time payment of $500 for eligible low-income renters to help with the cost of renting.
