I recently had the privilege of completing two successful workshops with CBDC:

Both workshops were designed to help small business owners better understand their numbers, stay organized, and feel more prepared when making business decisions and how to prepare stress free for tax time.

For years I thought confidence came from knowing what to do.

As a teacher, firefighter, and business owner, I've learned the opposite. The people who appear most confident aren't the ones who have all the answers. They're the ones who trust themselves to figure things out when they don't.

Most business owners aren't held back by a lack of knowledge. They are held back by waiting for certainty.

But certainty rarely shows up first.
Action does. Confidence isn't "I know this will work." Confidence is "I'll be okay even if it doesn't."

After a busy tax season, I’ll be taking a short break to recharge.

This post is for personal tax filers. Small business filers you have until June 15.

With April 30 approaching, I just want to remind you that if you have not filed your taxes yet, please do not worry.

Life can throw curveballs, and sometimes important things slip through the cracks. That happens more often than people think.

The good news is that there is still help, and even if you end up filing after April 30, it is not the end of the road.

I specialize in helping late filers and people who are multiple years behind. My goal is to make the process feel manageable, not stressful. Just one step at a time.

Tax Season Tip: Moving Expenses

Have you moved to Nova Scotia? Or moved within the province in 2025 for a new job, a new work location, or to attend school? Moving expenses may be claimable (the move generally needs to bring you at least 40 km closer). So your new home you are moving to needs to be 40 km closer to your new work than what your old home was.

Here’s what to gather before you come in:

1. Old address, new address, new work address, and your move date

2. Reason for the move (new job, job transfer, or school)

3. Very important: Proof of the new job/school and start date (offer letter / contract / enrollment)

4. Income details tied to the new location (T4, pay stubs, or other income earned after the move)

5. Receipts for moving costs you paid (moving company/truck rental, fuel, meals/lodging while travelling, storage, packing supplies, etc.) Some of these do not need to be used if the simplified method is being used.

6. Home sale agreement (closing/statement of adjustments if you have it)

7. Home purchase agreement (closing/statement of adjustments if you have it) This helps us report the sale properly and claim the Principal Residence Exemption when it applies if you have had to sell your old home.
