The Canadian Government announced a one-time GST/HST credit top-up dropping into bank accounts on June 5, 2026. This is a massive transition ahead of the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit coming this July.

If you are eligible for the GST/HST credit, keep a close eye on your phone next week. On June 5, 2026, the CRA is rolling out a special one-time top-up payment to help families manage day-to-day essential costs.

This special payment marks the transition into the brand-new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit launching this July.

Important Note: To secure these increased quarterly payments moving forward, your 2025 tax return must be filed and assessed. If you haven't filed yet or need to resolve an issue on your CRA My Account, let’s get it sorted today so you don't miss out! 📲🇨🇦

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit is coming soon!

➡️ June 5th: If entitled, you’ll get an extra one-time payment of 50% of your 2025/26 annual GST/HST credit amount. You may still see this payment shown as the “GST/HST credit” in your account.
➡️ July 3rd: There will be a 25% increase to the quarterly payments. As of July, the payments will be referred to as Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.

Do you run a small or medium business?

The Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses is now non-taxable for all fuel charge years.

Here’s what you need to know:
1. If you filed your T2 return before June 30th, 2025, and your rebate was clearly reported on Line 295 of Schedule 1, they adjust your tax return automatically. No further action needed from you!

2. If you filed your T2 return after June 30th, 2025, and included the rebate in your taxable income, you will need to submit an adjustment request.

If you or your spouse are self-employed, you have until June 15th to file your returns. However, remember that any taxes owing were technically due on April 30th, meaning CRA interest is already accruing on unpaid balances.
