So what was up next? The Simcoe Muskoka Social Events Group headed to Quayle’s Brewery last night for their maple festival… and Quayle’s clearly understood the assignment.
The regular menu looked ridiculously good — somebody ordered a stew that looked like it had been slow-cooked by woodland angels. But many of us took our maple duties seriously and sampled the features:
Maple butternut squash soup — basically fall in a hug…explains why Miss Huggins enjoyed that! 😋
Chicken and waffles with chili-infused maple syrup, topped with tater tots… a combination so bold it felt like it should come with a signed waiver. Sweet, spicy, crispy, chaotic genius — the kind of plate that makes you lock eyes with strangers like “you seeing this too?” 😳
And their maple coffee stout with a maple icing rim… which had people at the table reacting like they’d just discovered beer had a wild side. Somewhere between “this is amazing” and “this might ruin all other beer for us forever.”
The live music was definitely on the enthusiastically loud side, so conversation occasionally turned into smiling, nodding, and hoping for the best — but it was still a great night to meet more new people, have some laughs, and get up to some quality tomfoolery.
And then… Dilbert the Pickle showed up.
Not introduced. Not explained. Just fully present like he owned the place.
And at some point you realize it’s not even a person — it’s a wooden yarn pickle… somehow still holding more presence than most of us.
Great people, great energy, and just enough nonsense to make it a night worth repeating 😏
