Our most sincere appreciation to all those who voted for us as the BRONZE winner for Best Accounting Firm and GOLD for Best Bookkeeper, as well as recognizing our own Robert Ohlmann CPA, CGA, CA with a GOLD as Best Accountant. We were motivated to work hard for you before, but this only makes us feel that responsibility more deeply. Following the British Columbia Budget 2026 announcement, a major change is coming to how professional services are taxed in our province.

Starting October 1, 2026, the BC government is expanding the 7% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) base to cover essential professional services, which includes but not limited to accounting services, bookkeeping services and non-residential real estate services.

You will see a new 7% PST charge added to our invoices starting October 1st. This is not a price increase enacted by our firm. We are legally required by the provincial government to collect this 7% tax and pass it along to the province. While we do not agree with adding more service/consumption taxes on to the public, we appreciate your understanding as we update our billing systems to comply with these new provincial regulations.

You can lobby for change by signing petitions at Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) or by writing to your MLA.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is not sending out physical mail as much anymore. Important and time sensitive information is now more likely to come to your My Account or My Business Account, instead of by paper mail. Please check your CRA accounts regularly as we don’t receive the notifications for the letters or notices sent to our clients and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) frequently sends the letters to taxpayers requesting additional information.

In recognition of the Victoria Day statutory holiday, Ohlmann and Associates will be closed May 16th (Saturday) to May 18th (Monday). Ohlmann and Associates will reopen at 9 AM on May 19th (Tuesday).
