With the current market volatility increasing peoples fears about what is happening to their money it`s important to remember why you started investing.

Are there current changes that need to be made in your portfolio...possibly.

Should those changes be made through an emotional lens because of what has been happening over the last couple of days and months...absolutely not.

A well-crafted financial plan is built with a future focus, it is a roadmap that gives you a strong foundation for your total wealth management strategy and is what you should be using to benchmark your current financial decisions against.

The current news can be scary and triggering, don`t let that derail your future financial success.

Thursday Thought...

"If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together"
~African Proverb

I recently heard this quoted to me and thought it so greatly fit what we have been seeing in our practice.

Too often we meet with people that approach their financial planning like running a sprint, acting like it's a task to get checked off as fast as they can. While you may see some positive short term results, this is a marathon that requires many partners to truly achieve success.

November is typically a slower month, the lull before the Christmas season. It's also a great time to take a serious look to see how you've been approaching your finances and maybe adjust course if you aren't happy with how things are going.

Thursday Thought...

Start your day with a small task that makes you feel like you are being productive and that feeling will extend throughout the remainder of your day.

Every evening I review what happened throughout the course of that day and develop a task list for the upcoming day. By getting a task completed immediately upon waking up or getting the day started I find that I am much more productive throughout the course of the day.

A great thing about this is that the task doesn't have to be of any meaningful nature, just something that gives you a sense of accomplishment.

Thursday Thought...

Enjoy the simple things in life.

Think of all the little things that bring joy into your life. Imagine focusing your attention on those compared to everything that is difficult and how drastically different your mood would be throughout the day.

We truly believe like brings like in our lives. If you focus on the positive and joyful things in life, you will seek out more of the same and more of that will come into your life!

Happy Thursday!

Whether you are a DIY'er or work with an Advisor, there are a number of common pitfalls people fall into when investing.

We have all heard the story of the parent, uncle, cousin, etc. that lost everything or a significant portion of their investments. The second part of that story usually isn't touched on, which is often how did it happen and what was the individual invested in?

Often, when choosing investments, people look for the big returns or the new shinny thing that is happening and forget about what they are comfortable handling when in comes to risk, the purpose of the money they are investing and time horizon.

The perfect investment doesn't exist but the perfect investment for you does.

We have all made mistakes in investing but if you learn from those mistakes and don't make them again the path toward investing success is achievable.

At least now you can learn about the below mistakes that have been made and can make sure you don't make them in your future investing endeavors.

Thursday Thought (A day late)

Meal plan to save some money on your groceries!

The majority of us are definitely feeling the pinch in our wallets with the current cost of living. So why is it that we will always look for the best deals of things to buy, rates on loans, etc. but won't take the time to plan out our meals for the week and shop to a list?

We started doing this a couple years ago and noticed the following:
- We developed healthier eating habits
- We stopped doing the "quick run to the grocery store"
- We saved on average about $150/mth on groceries
- Our kids started to get involved in cooking and baking

This week shop the store flyers and plan out your menu. It might just be something you can do to help ease the pinch.

Thursday Thought:

Do you have weekly family meetings?

Life can be chaotic. Sitting down with your family once a week to review schedules, appointments, and commitments for the upcoming week allows you to better organize your time and share of the workload for the week. It also gives you a chance to have dedicated time to connect with the closest people to you in a meaningful way.

We recently started using the below structure in our family meetings and it has been working great! I have been able to start better conversations with my wife and kids and everyone knows the family schedule and is able to share in the running of what is needed in the household.

1. Touch base and recap how the week has been. Highlights and struggles.
2. Review what the upcoming week holds
3. Discuss division of labour for household needs.

This week try it out, see if it helps.
