Canada Carbon Rebate - Last Payment April 2025. On March 15th, an Order-In-Council was signed by Prime Minister Carney, reducing the carbon tax rate (fuel charge) to zero for April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2030. The final CCR payment for individuals will be issued starting April 22, 2025. Please note, to receive the payment starting April 22, 2025, individuals must have filed their 2024 income tax and benefit return electronically no later than April 2, 2025. Eligible individuals filing their return after April 2, 2025, should receive their final CCR payment once their 2024 return is assessed.

Bank of Canada cuts interest rate by quarter-point to 2.75% amid ‘uncertainty’ around Trump tariffs.

With a trade war clouding Canada’s future, the bank’s seventh straight cut drops the rate to 2.75 per cent.

NO GST/HST?! The government’s proposed two-month GST/HST holiday was adopted in the House of Commons yesterday. This means that there will be a "GST break", and it will apply to beer, wine, snacks, restaurant meals, catered meals, prepared foods, but also children’s toys, diapers, video games, physical books, Xmas trees and clothing, from Dec. 14, 2024, to Feb. 15, 2025. Provinces with the HST like Ontario will also be lifting the provincial portion, offering a bigger tax break.
