CRA TO AUTOMATICALLY ENROLL BUSINESSES IN ELECTRONIC MAIL
CRA is beginning a new policy of automatically enrolling businesses to use the CRA electronic mail system as their default method of communication. The policy takes effect May 12, 2025 for new businesses and new account registrations. This policy takes effect June 16, 2025 for most existing businesses, which means that if you want to continue to receive paper mail correspondence from the CRA you need to act immediately for any and all businesses you are affiliated with. This policy will apply mainly to corporations, but also to certain individuals, trusts, partnerships, and other entities that have business accounts with CRA.
There are two methods available for opting out (make sure you repeat these steps for each of your businesses):
1. Complete the RC681 form and send it to CRA as per the instructions on the form. Please note that CRA can legally take up to 30 days to process this request.
2. If you have My Business Account access, you can request paper mail via your online account. Log in, go to Profile, and then Manage Mail for My Business.
Please also note, this request for paper mail to continue must be renewed every two years.
We strongly encourage you to ensure your communication preferences are appropriate for your needs, as many communications and notices from CRA have very rigid deadlines for response.
