Shining some light on my current financial focuses of 2022!

1. Monthly Buffer - I’m saving up a months worth of expenses so I can pay all of my bills ahead of time, and I think once I have this saved I’d like $1,000 as a spending buffer sitting in my checking account.

2. Refill emergency fund - I’ve been wanting to make this a priority for too long but haven’t until recently. After finally experiencing a situation where I needed the emergency fund money I didn’t have.. I’m feeling more emotionally connected to this one. I never want to use my credit card for emergencies again lol.

3. Kick Debt - I don’t even want to talk about this one.. It just needs to GO 🥲💸

4. Track Spending/Savings - I’ve been able to keep this up for the first 4 weeks of the year which is i n s a n e to me. Who knows if I’ll be able to keep this up monthly but I’ll try.

5. Prioritize my TFSA - This is one that I started doing at the beginning of 2021 but quickly got overwhelmed af because I wanted to self-direct invest. I tried taking on too much at once and scared myself away. I’ve been contributing $100 monthly through automatic transfers since taking a step back but I know time is on my side so this is something I’m determined to focus on again this year. Self-directed or not.

As I complete each one I’ll add another one of my current focuses if I have any to add at the time 🥰♥️

🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼Tell me about your current favourite focus. I’d love to see where others minds are at right now.

And saying that, I hope you’ve been able to walk into the new year on steady ground, I hope you’re well, safe and warm. Happy Wednesday, friends.. there’s 5 days left of January 2022. We’re all doing amazing IMO 😮‍💨☺️

Merry Christmas, friends. Today I’m sharing our first real tree together - before I pour two hot chocolates, boil cinnamon on the stove, throw on a classic Christmas movie, and wake my partner tf UP for presents ♥️🎄🥰👏🏼

He never had a real tree growing up.

And I never realized how much I missed this simple (to me) tradition, until I’ve spent the past 5 years with a 1 foot tall fake tree from the dollar store.

Some people told me it would be too much work, but Idk what they’re talking about. This was absolutely worth every penny and every second spent trying to get this damn tree standing up straight in it‘s tree stand 🥲

$60 total for the tree and stand, plus the scent of fresh pine for the past month and my partner’s face lighting up whenever I turn the lights on.

What an incredible gift this has been for me. I’ve gotten a real tree again and we’ve just started a new tradition.

💝 If the holidays are tough for you this year, I’m sending love, know it’s okay to feel how you’re feeling. I’m a message away if anyone needs a safe space to chat today, tomorrow, next week, always.. 💬🫂

One of the most meaningful takeaways I got from 2021 🫂

Before I started my ADHD medication I’d cry most days because everything felt WAY too overwhelming.

“You mean, I’m suppose to do this, and this, and this and that as a 20-something-y/o?!”

Seriously life felt way too fu***ng complicated.

And everyone expected me to handle myself perfectly because “I hAvE nO rEaL lIfE pRoBlEmS yEt” aka no kids, I’m young and have a good job.

Prioritizing feeding myself and sleeping never happened because I was so focused on trying to live a neurotypical lifestyle.

I wouldn’t ask for help or tell my partner how defeated I really felt. I just wanted to have it all together.

But then my therapist said this to me and it pretty much instantly changed my life ♥️

When things were feeling too much, when I was walking around my house in tears because I couldn’t do all of the things..
the following would happen:

💆🏻‍♀️ Begin feeling overwhelmed and defeated
🤲🏼 Stop & put down whatever’s in hand
🔥 Rub hands together until warm
❤️‍🔥 Place them on my heart
🙇🏻‍♀️ Say to myself, softly, “I am a human being.. not a human doing.”
🛋 Sit the f**k down and rest for a while

Because we are.

We are here to be.

Not to do,

all of the things,

all of the time.

🥰🥰🥰

2022 isn’t going to have a number. If it does, it’s going to be incredibly low..😂

I tried utilizing my credit reward programs this year. Last December, as soon as I realized I had $114 in cash back,

I set a goal to use my BMO MasterCard for all grocery stops (resulting in 3% cash back) and my Fido MasterCard for all reoccurring bills (resulting in 1.5% cash back) this year.

It was nice, but the cards will be frozen soon 🧊

I’ve been thinking about trying to utilize my cash card more next year

It’s a prepaid visa that gives you 5% cash back for all food, drinks, and certain convenient stores from Friday to Sunday. I’m thinking about possibly throwing my weekend spending money on this.

Once the money is gone it’s gone, and the best part will be that none of its debt and is already accounted for in the budget 😊

We’ll see..

I know myself..

I know I won’t keep this up for the remainder of December, but I’d like to try 😊

I just started a higher dose of my ADHD medication. If there’s anything I’ve noticed since starting to take my meds in general, it’s most definitely my ability to prioritize/organize my s**t in ways that FINALLY work and make sense to me.

But it’s still a work in progress, as meds can only do so much. The hope is that with my new job schedule, plus my higher dose of medication, plus kinder self talk…I can keep this up for longer than expected.

But we’ll see! 💰💰

This feels so, so good! 💸👋🏻😍

Gooooodbye recent credit expenses (to an extent). I still have a few smaller items to pay off, but nothing that’s stressing me out the way all of these have been 😁

My work benefits cover 90% of my dental work so I got a hefty return this week from a appliance we went through with at the beginning of Sept!

Unfortunately it took two months to process which I had no idea would happen, but at least now I know.

Next time I claim a high dental expense I’ll make sure to save up ahead of time 😊🦷🪥

The appliance I got was an upper night mouth guard. Something I can sleep with every night so that my teeth stop grinding together, creating intense headaches throughout my days + wearing down my teeth!

I’m very excited to enter 2022 with this. I’ve wanted one for YEARS 👏🏼

Friendly reminder that loves to give out free samples, plus if you return 5 empty containers with the ♻️ symbol you also get a free face mask 🆓🥰

I’ve been trying to discontinue using drug store/grocery store shampoo and conditioner so I got a few things to try. So far I’m loving the bar shampoos a LOT, and they’re great because there’s absolutely zero waste involved :)

A days ago I shared about starting two side hustles.

I created a poll asking what people thought I was doing, and here’s the breakdown:

I’m delivering groceries and delivering food 🚙! (read Instacart and SkipTheDishes).

My first day with Instacart I had completed 4 orders = $78.

Fast forward two days, I completed one order while I had some spare time = $29.95

Fast forward another two days, one small order completed after dinner = $7.84

And on Sunday I had another 4 orders completed, plus a $92 top-up promotion = $118.71

And that’s how I made $234 in 7 days.

Truthfully I haven’t done any orders with Skip yet and that’s because everyone who’s drove for them has said InstaCart pays better. I wanted to test both to get a feel for myself but I’ve been enjoying making money from groceries so I’ll stick with that…until I don’t 😊.

The first $78 was used towards a dentist appointment earlier this week 🦷 and some of the remaining $156 was used towards a refill of my ADHD meds 💊 (I’m going up 10mg’s and very excited about that!!).

Currently left over is $114.19.

Originally I wanted to throw it on my credit card, but I’m now down to $0 in spending money due to that dentist appointment & the medication refill.

So Im keeping it in my checking account until payday. If any of its leftover a week from now, it will go on the 💳😊

Credit Card Update 🎊

Making great progress with all of this :)

First payoff:
I used a portion of the $2,000 from mom to pay my entire half of the bed off ✔️

Quick and easy.

We wanted to the bed in my partners name to help build his (like our couch, I shared a post a few weeks back about it)

but for some reason the system at Mattress Mart couldn’t find either of us in Canadas credit bureaus.

We’ll have to look into that at some point..

My partner had his half paid off within two weeks, and I had mine the following.

My credit card charges on the monthly balance, not the daily, so we paid nothing extra here 👏🏼

Second payoff:
Considering my partner and I split most things 50/50 this was a quick payoff for me ✔️

I never used to care for cats until I got my own and now I’d do anything for my fur family, including throwing $535 on credit for two vet trips.

I had $267 to payoff on my end which I was able to cover before the end of the month by stopping investment contributions for one pay period.

My balances are going down, friends, And I can CLEARLY see what sinking funds will be majorly beneficial to me in 2022 😂😊💸🥰

A significant increase in my emergency fund account since the last update!

I went from 11.8% to 32.36% completed.

From $590 on October 23rd
to $1,618 today. A $1,028 difference ☺️

My mom sent me $2,000 last month from a fund she had set aside specifically for my sister and I. I used most of it to pay off some credit expenses and then put $940 into my EF.

If it wasn’t for my moms help I most definitely wouldn’t have had a 174% increase within a month — feeling grateful for her and those extra funds 🤗🥰💰

I’m looking forward to see where I’ll be at the end of December 💭

A few months back the Sgt at work emailed me asking for an updated resume.

Someone on campus needed an employee to help him get organized and do some clerical work on the side.

I was the first person she thought of😊

Feeling extremely honoured, I also felt pretty panicked.

I don’t remember the last time I looked over my resume and I knew it needed tweaking.

Plus I can be a perfectionist..and I stress myself out over not so stressful situations.

So I spent the next X amount of hours stressing over how to word everything.
What I should/shouldn’t add.
How the layout should look.
What tf I would change the wording in my profile so it wasn’t kitchen focused.

The final copy is what you see on slide 1 above. It was so rushed because I wanted to have it handed in the day after I was asked.

I wasn’t happy or proud of it at all 🥴

And then I never heard back. Im not sure if it was directly because of my resume but I like to think if it didn’t look so ugly and I didn’t rush through it, maybe I would have gotten a follow up.

Fast forward to now.

I’ve grown so much over the past few months and after networking 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘺 hard..I’ve found myself another opportunity.

This one..way better!
I refused to use a resume that felt like the old version of myself.

On slide 2 you’ll see the new and improved 🤗🥰. New layout plus my photo added so they can put a face to my name.

I’ll tweak it a bit more whenever I have time for that, I’ll add my certifications and completed training plus a few other things, but this felt good enough for the time being. I’m really, really proud of how it turned out to be completely honest 🥰

And I feel as if I could NOT have reached this point without all of your help, .my.wealth.journey 😪
Thank you for proofreading, for helping find the words and for all of your support and encouragement.

You make life less stressful ♥️

This was sent over to the LCol early Friday morning at 6:30am and I got off at 2pm.

I didn’t hear back by the time I went home for the weekend but I’m not worried one bit, I assume if I hear back it won’t be until next week.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, friends 🤞🏼 I want this so, SO bad 🥺
