But I also need to take care of my peace and harmony in other areas of my life. So this week I'm hanging out with my extended family on the beach. Internet connection isn't great, and that's ok.

I don't plan on bringing my computer to the beach often, but it's the only place to get a signal on my phone for a hot spot here.

I've been wanting to lose weight for years. Since my last child was born and she just turned 5.

I've been wanting a clean organized house for even longer.

And I go in spurts with these things. I'll meal prep and go for a hike, I'll bring a big load of belongings to a thrift store, but the truth is my top 3 priorities have been elsewhere. Keeping neurodiverse children alive. Growing a business. Supporting friends. And these things can take a lot of effort!

So, if you have different things that you have been prioritizing, give yourself some grace. Know that it's ok to ask for help in the other areas.

Just because the April 30th tax deadline has passed, the CRA is still going to want you to file your taxes. So, with the mindset of better late than never, let's get started, no matter how many years back we need to go.

Welcome to the last week of April, also known as the countdown to e-file without penalty.

I'm going to share a little secret with you. This is the first year of my life that I had things ready for my own taxes early. I'm usually scrambling this time of year to add up all the utility bills and business receipts and pulling my hair out while I do it.

But this March I thought of you. The ADHD entrepreneur struggling to keep all the business hats on, and with the deadline looming is finally admitting they need to do this. I didn't want to be up to my eyeballs with my own stuff and not able to help you, so miracles happened and I filed early. So I'm all yours now!

I know you are out there, so I have opened up even more times available for the next 2 weeks. Please share this with your last minute friends as well. Who knows why needs help still.

I hope I don't need to stay up until midnight on April 30th this year, so please book early if you can. But I'll do everything I can to support you to not have to pay any penalties with your 2025 income taxes.

Part of my tax intake process involves filling out a Google Form. It helps me get a lot of the background info before we meet so we can get right to the details.

Today I realized that I can see the stats on every question I ask. So I thought I'd share this one.

I actually have not sent out any mass emails to past clients reminding them about tax season or even letting them know that I am still doing taxes this year. I also don't do any paid marketing, and it's pretty much all referral based.

So it was pretty encouraging to see that I'm just about at 50/50 for new and returning clients. Now many of them bring a spouse (I'll share more stats other days), or their adult children (thanks to all the parents helping their kids out!), so the number of returns is higher, but a big thank you to all my new and returning clients!

Sunday night I received this message in my inbox. "I missed my accountant's cut-off time. Do you still have space for us?"

My answer is a resounding YES! I know all about missed deadlines as a family of ADHD'ers, and I want to help all the others out there as much as I can.

With the deadline for paying taxes coming in just a couple weeks, I have opened up another evening for people to book appointments with me. My process is smooth and quick and as painless as I can make it.

So if you are stressing about any deadline, know that you are still safe to book with me. And if nothing works in my calendar, send me an email, we'll see what we can squeeze in!

Income Tax Filing: Making Taxes Manageable

Hi, it's April here, your empathetic bookkeeper.

I am getting new income tax requests coming in every day and I'm loving it. But I still have kids and life that gets in the way. So today included a dental appointment, a networking meeting, a Dr appointment and 2 personal trainer appointments (one each for two of us). So that means that business work gets done in the evening after the youngest goes to bed.

So yes, you may get emails from me at weird times of the day, but it's important to me that you aren't anxiously waiting for a reply for too long!

Happy March Break everyone!

For those of us who have kids, I hope you are able to enjoy them being home and are not being driven crazy by them complaining of boredom at home!

My youngest (almost 5) and I have a game we call "the cup game". It started out as a way for me to increase my dopamine from cleaning the house, a chore I really don't like doing. So I wrote out the rooms and tasks on little bits of paper, stuck them in a cup, and then every time I pick one out, I put a timer on for 15 min and do as much as I can in that area. She thought it looked fun so today we are doing it together.

Why am I telling you this? We all have hard things in our lives. Mine is cleaning, maybe yours is gathering paperwork in order to do your taxes. If you can find a way to make it a bit more fun (maybe make your favourite drink to go with it?), and break it into smaller chunks, you can get started. And once you get started, getting finished is a lot closer.

She's washing her bedroom window while I write this, so I only have a few minutes. No time to make a fancy graphic with it, but I hope you get to see this, and are encouraged to tackle the hard thing in your life today!
