2025 Personal Tax Update went out earlier this month. Please keep in mind important dates:

February 9 - 2025 Personal taxes start being accepted
February 23 - CRA opens E-filing for the 2025 tax season (no personal taxes can be filed until this date)
RRSP Cutoff - March 2, 2026
April 17 - Cutoff to ensure taxes are filed by April 30

As many clients have faced unacceptable wait times from CRA this year, I contacted my local MP (Mike Lake) earlier this year who has forwarded my concerns to the Department of Finance. I have attached a link to his response this morning, which I have replied that I want to see more done with these wait times.

Since tax season ended this year, I have seen many reassessments for minor issues take over 6 months to be completed and some are still not completed from March of this year. I am trying to advocate for my clients as my hands are tied with processing any issues any faster, and other accountants are seeing the same issues. If you have any outstanding issues with CRA that I am not already aware of, please let me know as soon as possible. I am here to help you in the best way that I can and monitor these issues to ensure they do get completed.

CRA is removing more services for us as representatives as they are pushing their online accounts more and more.

Please be sure to sign up for these accounts and keep these user names and passwords safe. CRA is also removing our ability to e-file personal consent forms after tax season this year. This won’t affect current clients, but will affect any new personal tax clients.

‼️ We will no longer accept direct deposit registrations or changes submitted via EFILE or by phone starting March 24th, 2025.

You can update your info quickly and easily through your CRA account or requesting it through your bank or credit union.

Please be aware that CRA has had a lot of difficulties with their new tax slip filing system which opened January 10. I delayed filing all tax slips as late as I could and thankfully the deadline has been extended.

Please be patient with me as my sole focus is getting these tax slips filed right now. All inquiries and phone calls that come directly to me (Melissa) are currently being scanned for any immediate responses, however I can only respond to tax slip related inquires right now. All personal tax related inquires will be responded to once tax slips are finished, there is no rush for personal taxes at this time. I do have an auto reply that does state this on my email, so please be sure to always read my emails fully.

We are not accepting any 2024 personal tax return until February 10. Prior years are still able to be submitted.

For all my clients who have inquired about the new bare trust rules, they have now been cancelled!

Happy New Year. I hope everyone was able to enjoy some time off.

I will start accepting personal tax returns on February 12 and E-filing opens on February 19. I am going to continue to encourage e-mailed and dropped off returns as they have been working extremely well the past couple of years. Please make sure you have your contact information on your documents. If you do require an appointment, I will accommodate as usual. The cut off to e-mail or drop your documents off and have them completed by the deadline is April 19. If I receive your taxes after April 19, I cannot guarantee they will be completed by April 30.
