It's actually hard to believe. But this is the reality.

$50 billion in farm assets needing to transition, and 88% of farms reportedly lacking a succession plan of any type, some lenders are working on building a system built with multiple partners to help farmers through succession planning and capitalization.

That all sounds great.

But here’s my opinion.

I would never let my banker or lender lead my succession plan.
Why?
Because their business is lending money and making money from lending money. That doesn’t make them bad people. It just means you need to understand what their role is.

Succession planning is now a billion dollar industry. There is a lot of money to be made from farmers trying to figure out how to transition their land, assets and businesses to the next generation.

Your banker should be at the table.

But they shouldn’t own the table.
Use your banker for banking. Use your accountant for accounting. Use your lawyer for legal advice.

And use an experienced independent financial advisor (IFA) who can look at the whole picture and help coordinate everyone around what is best for YOU.

Not the bank. Not the lender. Not the institution.

Your family. Your farm. Your future.

Life insurance isn’t just about dying.

It’s about making sure the financial mess doesn’t get left behind.
