If I wasn’t a paperwork nerd, I’d probably be renovating homes full time.
Some of you might already know that about me!

So naturally… my home office is currently under construction. I am creating a new space for this new adventure with you! I need organization, a place for everything and a space that is welcoming for you, my clients!

I may organize financial chaos for a living, but apparently I also enjoy creating actual chaos with paint samples, flooring decisions, and half-built shelves.

No - a receipt does not have to include HST for the expense itself to be deductible for income tax purposes.

BUT….for claiming an HST/GST input tax credit (ITC), the receipt does need to meet certain Canada Revenue Agency requirements.

For example:

* If no HST was charged, you can’t claim an HST credit.
* If HST was charged, the receipt should show:
* the vendor’s GST/HST number (for larger purchases)
* amount of HST paid or HST included
* date and vendor information

So:
YES - You may deduct the expense
NO - But you may not claim the HST back
