Annual Property Tax Sale

The City is required by the Local Government Act to sell at Tax Sale all properties whose taxes have not been paid for 3 years. A public auction is held every year on the last Monday of September. The sale is held at 10:00 a.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall: 101-310 Ward Street, Nelson.

Tax FAQ’s - Small Business Venture Capital Tax Credit

‘The small business venture capital tax credit encourages corporations to make equity capital investments in B.C. small businesses to help them develop and grow.

This tax credit may be applied only to provincial income taxes payable. If you cannot apply your entire tax credit amount to B.C. taxes payable in the year, the excess may be carried forward up to four years.'

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) replaces the GST/HST credit this month (July 2026). This benefit provides tax-free payments four times each year to individuals and families with low and modest incomes to help manage the rising costs of everyday essentials. Starting this month, there will be a 25% increase to the benefit amount until 2031.

"In June 2026, British Columbia will implement several tax changes, including Personal income tax brackets and non-refundable tax credits.

Effective for the 2027 through the 2030 taxation years, indexation for personal income tax brackets and non-refundable tax credits is temporarily paused at their 2026 levels. Indexation will resume for 2031 and subsequent taxation years."
