It's been a long time since I posted on this page.

I have been keeping busy doing the books of my clients and I really don't know what to post about when it comes to bookkeeping.

For anyone who does see this post, let me know what kind of information you would like to know more about when it comes to bookkeeping.

After a natural disaster, AgriRecovery helps producers recover extraordinary costs beyond what is available through other financial assistance programs.

Livestock producers and beekeepers can now apply for phase two of the 2021 Canada-Alberta Livestock Feed Assistance AgriRecovery initiative.

In response to severe drought conditions, the governments of Canada and Alberta worked together to rapidly deploy the Canada-Alberta Livestock Feed Assistance AgriRecovery initiative, which has already helped thousands of livestock producers cover their extraordinary costs.

The second phase of this initiative, which opened January 5, provides continued assistance to eligible Alberta producers, who were hit hard by the 2021 drought. Together, the initial and secondary payments will put up to $340 million into the hands of producers to help them address the extraordinary costs incurred feeding their livestock during the 2021 drought.

In phase two of the Livestock Feed Assistance initiative, producers can apply for additional compensation (a secondary payment) to help cover costs over and above the phase one initial payment. Due to prolonged dry weather and extreme high temperatures, many producers experienced reduced grazing capacity causing a severe economic hit.

December 31 is year end for a lot of small businesses, including any business that is a sole proprietor or farm. To those of you who this applies to, this is your year end reminder to count your inventory.

For farmers, that typically includes your cattle and other livestock, as well as your feed supply. Try to do your inventory count either tonight or sometime tomorrow morning.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and all the best in 2022!

Over the last few months, I have been involved in a couple different bookkeeping scenarios and I've noticed something that I just have to share.

In most of my bookkeeping I have used a desktop program where I am in control of all transactions being entered into the system. I have also been involved with an online program where the company I'm working for has chosen to use the download bank account transactions feature.

I am currently recommending that businesses don't use the download transactions feature and the reason for this is that it takes your bookkeeper longer and it costs you more money.

When the transactions are downloaded, the system makes up numbers when it comes to GST and it guesses what general ledger to use. So your bookkeeper has to search the transaction, match to the receipt, correct the transaction and than add. Which takes on average 4 times or more longer than if they just entered the transaction themselves.

Whether you have a bookkeeper or are doing this yourself, consider not using this feature and save yourself some time and money. But talk to your bookkeeper to make sure this works best for them.

I was asked today who my ideal client would be? That answer came very easily.

I love to help that small business owner, the one with the shoe box full of receipts, who becomes so over whelmed with the thought of doing paperwork, that they want to pull their hair out.

Does that sound like you or someone you know?

I feel small business owners should spend their time doing the things they are good at and not stress about the paperwork.

I would love to help, so you can do you.
