Heading back to college or university in Ontario? While you’re getting ready for classes, it’s also a great time to start a folder for your important tax documents.
Keeping your paperwork organized throughout the school year can make filing your Canadian income tax return much easier.
Ontario students should keep important documents such as:
• Your T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate
• T4 slips from summer or part-time jobs
• Records of eligible tuition fees
• Government student loan interest records
• Receipts for eligible moving expenses, if you qualify
• Scholarship, bursary and other relevant tax documents
Canadian post-secondary students may be able to claim the federal tuition amount, eligible student loan interest and, in certain circumstances, moving expenses. Ontario residents may also be able to claim eligible student-loan interest on their provincial return.
A little organization now can make tax season a lot easier later!
