Running your business as a sole proprietor?

Unlike a corporation, you and your business are not separate legal entities. Your business income and expenses are generally reported on your personal income tax return.

A few bookkeeping reminders:

• Keep business and personal transactions clearly separated
• Save receipts and records to support business expenses
• Track your income throughout the year
• Remember that income tax and CPP may not be deducted throughout the year, depending on how you pay yourself
• Know when you need to register for GST/HST

Good bookkeeping throughout the year makes tax time a whole lot easier.
