Hello,
Eric Daley here and I am respectfully re-offering for Town Council.
The last four years have been quite a learning curve for sure, and at the same time I feel grateful to have been part of such a productive Town Council. The focus on making present improvements within the town and laying the plans for the future development opportunities, this council worked in respectful harmony, to make decisions to improve the quality of living in Pictou.
Council has worked through many issues and changes throughout the term. The loss and hiring of a new CAO, Town Engineer, and two accountants. All of the issues related to the pulp mill. Keeping our public school grades primary to 12 within the town. The problems of decreasing population number and a shrinking tax base to work with. The Covid-19 virus. Just to name some of the issues.
Yet throughout this term there have been many positive and productive accomplishments that have been achieved as well. The development of the Roundabout entrance into the town. The completion of the water treatment facility, providing a high quality water supply to the people of Pictou. In conjunction with that, new wells brought online that increase and stabilize the water supply in the water tower, and a new user pay water billing system that has reduced the actual cost of water for many residents. The purchase of much needed new equipment for the Town Works department. Upgrades to the waste treatment facility operation to maintain the quality of discharge into the harbor. Many upgrades to the sewer, water lines and valve controls to aid in keeping the systems working effectively. Numerous street paving projects and sidewalk enhancements have been completed and a plan for future upgrade has been put into action. Significant additions to the Fisheries Training Pool that include a fully accessible universal change room. We are one of a very few municipalities to have introduced a graduated tax incentive program for building construction and improvements, making investing in Pictou a really viable opportunity for developers. These and more are part of the ongoing developments within the Town of Pictou.
I believe the present and future of Pictou, to be a vibrant community for all residents to live and enjoy, will continue to evolve from the foundations that are being developed. Things like the continued growth of the lands nears the roundabout entrance and Pine Tree Road, to attract new business and economic opportunity within the town. Updates and repairs to the waterfront area that include structural repairs to the wharf sustained from the hurricane. Developing a new break-water that will allow the waterfront to continue to be safe and accessible for boaters and visitors. Enhancements to the downtown core, including the DeCoste Centre and Library development project that could act as the springboard to revitalizing the main street and waterfront business development opportunities.
The skate park funding is over half way to realizing its’ completion goals, and there is a dedicated group of citizens presently working at a water park development project for the children of our town. There is always ongoing street and sewer enhancements that will require attention and the Town Engineering Department has a realistic strategy for moving forward. Completing these and grasping future opportunities will enable us to provide a sustainable community into the future.
I have lived in Pictou all of my life. Raised my family here and watched them raise their families here as well. I believe the future of Pictou can be vibrant for all residents. I am asking for your support for Town Council in the Oct.17/20, Municipal Elections.
