Most fraud does not start with a criminal mastermind.

They are about designing processes where mistakes, unauthorized transactions, and fraud are difficult to execute and easier to detect.

Good controls can be surprisingly simple: segregation of duties, approval thresholds, independent bank reconciliations, vendor change verification, and periodic review of access rights.

Trust is valuable.

Growth can make a profitable business run out of cash.

That is not a contradiction. It is working capital.

Imagine sales growing 30 percent. Customers pay in 45 days, employees are paid every two weeks, suppliers expect payment in 30 days, and inventory must be purchased before the customer is billed.

The income statement may show healthy margins while the bank balance moves in the opposite direction.

This is where financial management needs to go beyond reviewing monthly profit.

A growing operational business should understand its cash conversion cycle, receivable days, inventory requirements, supplier terms, and the amount of working capital required to support the next dollar of revenue.

Otherwise, the founder may discover that growth requires financing only after the cash is already gone.

Revenue growth is not automatically financial progress.

Sometimes the most important question is not, "How fast can we grow?"

It is, "How much growth can our balance sheet finance?"
